Adrian Knight (composer)
Adrian Knight (b. 1987, Uppsala, Sweden) is a composer[1] living and working in New Haven, CT since 2009. Between 2006 and 2009 he studied with among others Pär Lindgren and Jesper Nordin at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, and since 2009 with David Lang and Ezra Laderman at the Yale School of Music[2] in New Haven.
While not adhering to any definitive school of thought other than the experimental, his music is almost without exception slow and quiet, sometimes with gradual processes, sometimes entirely static. It combines elements of noise, simple waveforms and field recordings with slowly rising and falling layers of pitches. It has resulted in a number of works for acoustic instruments and electronics, notably manchester for large orchestra with electronics (2008), vain attempts for piano and fixed electronics (2007-2008) and daedaldualism for electric guitar, synthesizer and live electronics (2007), as well as works for purely acoustic or electronic ensembles. [3][4]
He has collaborated with among others the Swedish Wind Ensemble with Michael Bartosch, harmonica virtuoso Filip Jers, Jan Risberg’s Futurum Ensemble, and KMH Symphony Orchestra conducted by Daniel Blendulf. Since 2008, he operates what he calls “the smallest record label in the world”, närproducerat[5], and has released five albums so far, with, in addition to his own works, music by Magnus Bunnskog[6], Sebastian Lakatos and Victor Lisinski.
His works are published by the Swedish Music Information Centre[7]. He is a member of Fylkingen in Stockholm[8].
