Pronyma is a fictional character in the videogame Tales of Symphonia, by Namco.

Pronyma is the leader of the Desian Grand Cardinals, and also Mithos Yggdrasill's right-hand henchwoman. Although the leader of the Cardinals, her allies show no respect for her, both directly and indirectly.

In-game Appearances

Lloyd's group first encounter Pronyma at the Asgard Human Ranch, though only as a hologram. She is accused by Kvar, another Grand Cardinal, of stealing data from his Angelus Project. Pronyma claims, truthfully so, that she knows nothing about it. After the battle with Kvar, it is revealed that it was in fact Rodyle who had been using Kvar's research.

Pronyma's second appearance in the game is in the Fooji Mountains in Tethe'alla, where Lloyd and co. meet her in person. A new member of the party, Zelos Wilder proceeds to collect the Rheairds when they are suddenly caught by Yuan's trap. After a very brief conversation between the party and Yuan, Pronyma appears to take custody of Colette. Yuan agrees but only if he could take Lloyd. The deal is made but then Colette awakens from her zombie-like state to resist her attacker's hostile action and unintentionally releases the party from the trap by tripping onto the switch. Pronyma then attacks the group. Once the battle ends, Lloyd turns his attention to Yuan only to find his attack blocked by Kratos. After a conversation, Kratos leaves with the injured Desian.

The third time Pronyma is seen is at the Tower of Salvation, during the second battle with Yggdrasill. When Genis attacks him she rushes to her master's aid, aiming a beam of dark magic at the young half-elf (coincidentally, this is the only time in the game where the floating objects surrounding her appear to have any use). However, Yggdrasill pushes Genis out of the way, taking the full blow of the spell. Pronyma apologises and leaves after saying something about "that certain matter" .

Her next appearance is at the huge plot-twist scene at Altessa's house, when Lloyd is told that Kratos is his father and Mithos, a half-elven child the group befriended earlier in the game, reveals himself to be the ancient hero of the Kharlan War and the leader of Cruxis. Once again, Pronyma appears to defend Yggdrasill, summoning angels to distract the group.

At the group's final visit to the Tower of Salvation when Zelos betrays the party, Pronyma finally manages to take Colette and - depending on who the player talks to in Flanoir - leaves either Zelos or the angel Gatekeeper to fight the group. When Lloyd reaches the Great Seed Chamber below the tower after losing all of his friends, he finds Yggdrasill and Pronyma attempting to transfer Martel's soul into Colette. Suddenly, his friends reappear to rescue him from Yggdrasill's attack (saved by Kratos/Zelos). Furious, the angel orders Pronyma to kill them. Once she is defeated, she crawls to her master on her knees, begging for him to save her. Desperate, she addresses him by his true name, "Mithos". Yggdrasill proceeds to kill her, stating that only his former companions could use that name.

Boss Battle

Pronyma is fought as a boss enemy twice in the game. The first time is when she tries to kidnap Colette on the Fooji Mountains. The second happens near the end of the game, in the Hall of the Great Seed, when Mithos orders her to kill Lloyd's group. In battle, though she is armed with a mace, Pronyma seldom uses physical attacks, instead using the weapon to channel her Dark magic. The last time the group fights her, Pronyma is flanked by two Iduns, strange scythe-wielding humanoid creatures.

Attacks:

  • Acid Rain - as its name suggests, acid falls from the sky and covers the battlefield. However, this technique does not do damage but reduces the stats of all party members fighting - the effects only last until the end of the battle.
  • Agarazium - rings of magic fly up into the target from the ground.
  • Bloody Lance - a small circle surrounds the target and dark beams shoot down, locking onto its location. The Dark equivalent of the Light spell, Holy Lance.
  • Dark Sphere - a ball of darkness engulfs the target. The Dark equivalent of the Light spell, Photon.
  • Leonazium - similar to Agarazium, except that the target is attacked from the front. Also, a silhouette of a lion's head appears and blows the target away. Essentially, a long-ranged version of the close combat technique, Beast.
  • Prism Sword - Pronyma's strongest attack, giant swords of light slam into the ground around a character. It is odd though, that Pronyma is able to cast such a powerful spell, as it is of the Light element, her main weakness.

"Lord" Pronyma

Earlier in the game, Pronyma is incorrectly referred to as "Lord" Pronyma by one of her servants, Kilia.
