The term rationale may refer to:

  • An explanation of the basis or fundamental reasons for something
  • A justification or rationalization for something, see theory of justification
  • Rationale (clothing), a liturgical vestment worn by clergy, in particular by Bishops, in the Roman Catholic Church which uses full vestments.
  • Design rationale, an explicit documentation of the reasons behind decisions made when designing a system or artifact.
