The Angels Advocate Tour [1] is the seventh concert tour by American R&B/pop singer Mariah Carey, in support of her twelfth studio album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, and her upcoming remix album, Angels Advocate. The tour only visits North America.

Background

After performing a set of promotional shows at The Pearl Concert Theater, rumors circulated in the media of Carey's forthcoming arena tour. In December 2009, the tour was official announced by Carey's official website and Twitter page, under the title "Angels' Advocate Tour".[2][3] The name is linked to a song from her recent album Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, "Angels Cry" which will be remixed to feature Ne-Yo and will be released whilst Carey is on tour. This is her first concert tour since her The Adventures of Mimi Tour in 2006. Dates so far are only slated for the U.S. and Canada.[4] However, Mariah is hoping to visit the UK and Australia later this year.

  • "Emotions" was not performed at the second Chicago show along with the typical encore "Hero".
  • "Always Be My Baby" has replaced "Subtle Invitation" since the January 30 show in Boston.

  • On February 20, 2010 at the Dodge Theater in Phoenix , Carey performed "Don't Forget About Us"
  • On February 23, 2010 at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles, Carey performed "Don't Forget About Us" on both nights.

  • On February 26, 2010 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, Carey performed "H.A.T.E.U." (due to a fan request during the show) in the Encore Section before ending with "Hero". Carey also sang a snippet of "All I Want For Christmas Is You" after "Make it Happen".

Critical Reception

Critical Reception to the tour has been generally positive, with most reviewers praising Carey's vocals and the stage production as a whole [16][17]. The set design and set list have also been praised, in particular he mix of Love Hangover/Heartbreaker and her performances of We Belong Together and Hero. .[18] Her time keeping has come in for some criticism at certain dates, while others felt that there were to many costume changes throughout the show. [19] In general however, most critic's surmised that this tour was better than her The Adventures of Mimi Tour four years earlier and was one of her best tour's in quite some time.
