Lesley Lokko is a Ghanaian-born author of Bitter Chocolate, Sundowners, and other works. She spends her time between Accra, Ghana and the United Kingdom.

Biography

Early life and education

Lesley Lokko is the daughter of a Ghanaian surgeon and a Scottish mother who met while her father was in University of St Andrews medical school in Scotland. She grew up in Ghana and the United Kingdom. Lokko began studying Hebrew and Arabic at Oxford, but left the program to go to the United States. After a short time in the United States she returned to London to earn a PhD in architecture. She also spent time teaching in Jamaica and South Africa. [1]

Much of Lokko's writing contains themes about cultural and racial identity. [2]
