Othyus Jeffers (born August 5, 1985 in Chicago, Illinois) is a American professional basketball player currently with the Iowa Energy of the NBA Development League.

College career

He spent his collegiate career at three different colleges. After graduating from high school, he spent one season at Los Angeles Southwest College, averaging 22.3 points and 10.3 rebounds per game as the Cougars went 20–8. He then transferred to the Illinois–Chicago. He won Horizon League Newcomer of the Year in his first season with the Flames, averaging 11.6 points and 7.6 rebounds while starting 30 of 31 games. His junior season saw him lead the Flames in scoring and rebounding as he was named First-Team All-Horizon League.[1] On March 3, 2010, the Utah Jazz of the NBA signed Jeffers to a 10 day contract.[2]

Just a few weeks after being named all-conference, Jeffers was shot while attempting to defend his sister in a fight with her boyfriend. As a result of the shooting and his conflicts with UIC coach Jimmy Collins, Jeffers opted to transfer to Illinois' Robert Morris College for his senior year.[3]

Professional career

Jeffers signed with the Iowa Energy of the NBA Development League for the 2008–09 season. In his rookie year, he was named to the 2009 D-League All-Star Game[4], having averaged 19.8 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. On March 3, 2010, the Utah Jazz of the NBA signed Jeffers to a 10 day contract.[5]
