Bojidar Spiriev

Dr. Bojidar Spiriev (Template:Lang-bg; 1923–10 January 2010) was a hydrogeological engeneer and athletics statistician credited with the creation of the official IAAF scoring table.

Dr. Spiriev was born in Nevrokop (today Gotse Delchev), a town in southwestern Bulgaria, in a Mecedonian family. He married Hungarian long jump champion Irén Kun in 1961 and moved to Hungary. However, it was not until 1992 that he was granted Hungarian citizenship. He was the father of athlete and manager Attila and chess player Peter. Dr. Spiriev created the "Hungarian" Scoring Table of athletics, which later turned into the offical IAAF Scoring Table. He also founded the All-Athletics.com worlwide athletics database website. Dr. Spiriev died on 10 January 2010 at the age of 77.[1]
