Phat Girlz is a comedy film released in North America on April 7, 2006. The DVD and its soundtrack were released on August 22, 2006.

Story

Jazmin Biltmore is a smart-mouthed, frustrated, plus-sized, aspiring fashion designer who is obsessed with her weight and struggles to find love and acceptance in a world full of "hot-bodied babes", but soon finds love with a much slimmer man than herself, an African man named Dr. Tunde Jonathan.

Box office

In its opening weekend, the film grossed a total of $3,109,924 in the United States. As of July 9, 2006, the film has grossed a total of $7,061,000 in the United States. It amassed $340,600 overseas and thus has made $7,401,890 worldwide.[1]

Critical reception

This movie was heavily panned by Critics across the nation. Ann Gilbert of Filmcritic.com said "Just a protracted fat joke"[2], the Arizona Republic said "It's a chick flick with good intentions about self-image and body size, yet it leaves an icky aftertaste."[3], Variety said "A thin comedy about a size-plus heroine"[4], and MaryAnn Johanson of the Flick Filosopher said "I am allowed to say this, because I've been on both sides of the [fat-girl] fence: Phat Girlz, shut the f**k up."[5]
