VS were a British R&B/pop group that had three hits on the UK Singles Chart.[1] It was the brainchild of former Blue member Simon Webbe (who was also their manager), Melody from DJ Pied Piper, and established singer-songwriter Ali Tennant, who came together to form the production company Love for Music.
Band members
- Chinyere McKenzie - a choreographer, McKenzie set up her own dance school in Manchester at an early age, to work with under-privileged children.
- Blimi - a rapper from West London. He and Webbe shared the same barber who suggested they meet when he heard that Webbe was putting together a band. Blimi won the Tim Westwood Open Mic contest in 1997.
- Marvin Humes - A singer and actor, and appeared as a regular cast member in BBC One's Holby City. However, Humes wanted to make music his career and after recording several tracks, he met Webbe at the 2003 Soccer Six Industry Football match and handed him a demo tape. In 2008, Humes auditioned on the The X Factor with a boyband called JLS and he successfully made it through to the live show. JLS went on to finish second and achieved two No. 1's in the UK Single Charts with Beat Again and Everybody In Love and also scored their first No.1 in the UK Album Charts. On February 16th 2010, JLS won two BRITawards.
- Ryan Taylor - had been singing from an early age and Humes suggested he joined VS as the fifth member—thus completing the line.
