Telewizja Polska Spółka Akcyjna (TVP S.A., often abbreviated to only TVP, Polish Television) is Poland's public broadcasting corporation. About a third of TVP's income comes from a broadcast receiver licence, while the rest is covered by commercials and sponsorships.

History

In 1935, Państwowy Instytut Telekomunikacji (State Telecommunications Institute, PIT) starts working together with Polish Radio on establishing television service

The first edition of television was in 1937, The black and white TV broadcast just to send signals to departments. The real broadcast started October 13, 1938. And programs supposed to start in 1941. But German army destroyed all the tools.

PIT resumes on TV project in 1947. The first Polish telecast started in December 1951 after 2nd world war.

The official broadcast of TP started 25/10/1952. In Black and White. Secam color started 1971. But Pal started 1993

On new year's 1993, TVP (Television of Poland) joins European Broadcasting Union as an active member (regrouping of OIRT and UER).

New building finished in 2009.

International Cooperation

TVP is cooperating with the French-German TV network ARTE, this cooperation has been suspended in February 2009 as TVP's new Intendant's, Piotr Farfał, views were incompatible with Arte’s "philosophy based on intercultural exchange" and "the party that TVP's chairman is presently connected with does not share European values".

Clocks

Clocks on Telewizja Polska introduced in 1969.

There is only clock is the history. The current clock. (Blue background with logo inside the clock.) Used since 1969 until now. The type is changed time-to-time.

Test card

Testcard introduced in 60's. Whole night testcard started 1992. First color testcard was PM5544. Still using right now.

In 1997, No music broadcast on testcard. It is replaced by quiet sound. Later beep

Closing and Opening times

"Closing time" is 100%. It will choose the time from numbers of programs like 3:25. But it announced in the schedule.

TVP1

• 1952-1981 opens at 14:00 and 18:00. Closes sometimes beetween 22:30 and 23:00 (0:15 in new year)
• 1981-1989 opens at 8:00 closes sometimes beetween 21:30 and 22:30 due to the force of government.
• 1989-1992 opens at 8:00 and 14:00 closes sometimes beetween 23:30 and 1:00
• 1992-now opens at 6:00 closes sometimes beetween 0:45 and 6:00

TVP2

• 1971-1992 opens at 17:00. Closes sometimes beetween 21:30 and 23:30
• 1992-2005 opens at 7:00 closes sometimes beetween 0:00 and 4:00
• 2005-now opens at 6:00 closes sometimes beetween 2:30 and 5:00
