Naomi Rachel Long MLA (born 13 December 1971) is a politician from Northern Ireland.
Long is a Queen's University of Belfast-certified civil engineer by vocation.
She is Member of the Legislative Assembly for Belfast East and Deputy Leader of the Alliance Party. She was revealed to be the new Lord Mayor of Belfast on 1 June 2009, defeating the DUP's William Humphrey by 26 votes to 24 in a vote at a council meeting.
She has taken over the mantle of John Alderdice by representing Alliance in the Westminster Belfast East elections. At the 2007 election, she more than doubled the party's vote in the constituency, placing second ahead of the Leader of the Ulster Unionist Party, however the overall UUP vote was 22%. At 18.8%, her vote share was higher than that even for Alderdice in 1998.
In 2009, Long was elected as Lord Mayor of Belfast. She became the second woman to hold the post, after Grace Bannister in 1981–1982.[1]
