Viçosa is a Brazilian city in the state of Minas Gerais, located in the Zona da Mata, 275 km in a southwesterly direction from the state capital of Belo Horizonte. As of 2004 its population is estimated to be 73,121 and the area of the municipality is 279 km². The altitude is 648 meters. It hosts the Universidade Federal de Viçosa, which is considered one of the best agricultural and technological universities in Brazil.
