Potential Superpowers

Hi, the only editor 9other than yourself) that objects to the quote's inclusion appears not to want to discuss the matter. Can I ask why we have decided not to include a quote that was one of the issues at the heart of recent edit-warring before it was sourced and brought into context. Regards, RaseaC (talk) 16:05, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Turns out the other editor was reverting repetition, which I inadvertantly re-added. RaseaC (talk) 16:18, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's quite all right then, no worries. G. R. Allison (talk) 19:51, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Reply to your message

Hey not to worry. I was only try to improve the article, which actually needs further work to bring it up to standard. Also my editing comment of "reincorporated my changes; disucss on talk page if there are any concerns at all and i'll revert" was done in complete good faith. I think I was unclear and you misinterpreted my comment. What I meant was you can reply to my thread in the Talk page if you have any concerns at all and I will revert MY OWN edit to whatever is the consensus. Does this make sense? In any case, I suppose dialogue in the Talk page can only be a good thing when making changes. Cheers! Poliphile (talk) 20:19, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Rewrite

Hi, I'm an experienced member of the Power in international relations WikiProject and have been working on many related articles such as middle power, great power and potential superpower? I have partially rewritten the article to conform with the standards on articles like middle power and great power. I believe I tagged this article was tagged for its quality a while back because I've been meaning to work on it. Most of the info on the regional powers are original research and synthesis and have no relation as to why these states are regional powers. A similar rewrite has already occured for the other articles I mentioned. They used to be as unwieldy as this one. By the way if you're interested, please join the WikiProject. We could use more willing editors. Nirvana888 (talk) 15:34, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, it seems you have a interest in the power related articles. Could you add your name to the list on the WikiProject page? Nirvana888 (talk) 15:49, 11 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Scotland

Greetings! To begin with, I should say that my opinion is by no means a criterion for justice and absolute truth, so it shouldn't be so important :) I support the Scottish independence because Scotland had a long history as independent kingdom with its own traditions and which fought against the English to preserve its independence and distinction and now as part of the UK it is strongly influenced by England which I don't like at all - in fact the UK seems to me as a Greater England. Also, Scotland used to support the Stewards, whom I much prefer to William of Orange or the Hannover dynasty. Furthermore, I don't like the UK as country too much because it acted usually against Bulgaria's interests in favour of Turkey and Greece in the late 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. The UK has a share for Bulgaria's misfortunes during the process of national unification (yes, I know it was mianly our fault). Best, --Gligan (talk) 15:16, 8 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Blue water navy

I found you removing content from the blue water navy page. Why is that? I suggest you refrain from reverting it again and again. A new section has been added in the talk page and hope that you will discuss the issue there.Bcs09 (talk) 07:29, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding the page List of guided missile destroyers, I would like to say that the Forbin class ships are destroyers.. Forbin is given the pennant D620 and Italian Navy destroyer Doria is given pennant D553. Also would like to know your opinion on inclusion of IN destroyer classes Kolkata to the list.Bcs09 (talk) 07:48, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

They are officially classified as frigates, as Rama has said on the article in question, "That would only be a display a rampant USAyan-centric POV. These ships are called "frigates" by both users, and their role is more akin to that of a cruiser in any case. Rama (talk) 09:17, 20 November 2009 (UTC)" I fully agree with this user, they are classified as frigates thus on Wikipedia they are frigates.G. R. Allison (talk) 11:22, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Usually the pennant will giveaway whether it's a destroyer or frigate. In both cases it's D meaning destroyer. If it is F, then it's a frigate. Just see Wiki page French First rank frigates. Even though for France there is no destroyer title (Instead uses First rank and second rank frigates, the ship belongs to the destroyer class because the pennant starts with a D instead of F.Bcs09 (talk) 18:02, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Very well then feel free to change my edits, I apologise for lack of awareness.G. R. Allison (talk) 18:14, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Regional power

Please, stop sabotaging my contribution, which you did on the Regional power page. According to Wikipedia rules, most widely accepted names must be used! For further evidence, please refer to the United Nations legal documents[1][2][3][4][5] and historical maps[[6]]. So, I ask you politely to correct your mistake and use the full and legal name, Persian Gulf. If no correction is made, I will have no choice than to fix the error, in accordance with Wikipedia rules as well as all the evidence that exists contrary to your claim. For a well-documented name like this, a consensus is not needed, since I have given you enough sources to verify the validity of the name. Regards. --84.23.140.26 (talk) 08:49, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Get over yourself, "sabotaging" indeed. I simply made an error. I apologise. G. R. Allison (talk) 11:44, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I change it back to how it was.--84.23.140.26 (talk) 14:46, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Manual of Style Numbers

I have partially reverted your edit of 15:54, 30 January 2010 to Invincible class aircraft carrier. Please could you read Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Numbers, and you will understand why.--Toddy1 (talk) 17:02, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for your kind words

about my BBC premier today. Us Unites Statesians won't see it for a month or two, and I am curious as to what footage they used. I really want to know if any of the music segments they filmed were edited in because all my band mates had to sign Release Forms and they are curious as to exactly what they released. Life is good. Einar aka Carptrash (talk) 00:01, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sure there was a shot of you playing with the band, I had assumed you were Canadian and not American, I have a bad ear for accents. G. R. Allison (talk) 15:27, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well American accents can be a bit confusing, and although pretty much a life-long English speaker, I didn't arrive in the USA until I was 20 and have picked up a wide variety of linguistic mongrelization along the way. I was once driving an Austrian friend, who spoke very good English to Serpent Mound in southern Ohio and we stopped for breakfast in a little eatery in (as I recall) Hillsboro, Ohio, which is just across a sort of cultural line that divided the North from the South. All of a sudden the waitress calls you 'Honey", that sort of thing. And there was a lively conversation taking place at the table next to us and I asked Anna if she could tell the difference between the accents that we were listening to and those from up North, and she listened for a moment then replied that she could not understand anything that they were saying. America. It is no monolith. Errrr . . ... did I say thank-you again? Carptrash (talk) 16:47, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Commanders in war articles

There is currently a discussion on how to handle commanders in war articles at Wikipedia:Village_pump_(policy)#Commanders_in_War_articles. Your input would be appreciated. AzureFury (talk | contribs) 20:46, 10 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Edit summary/talk page notifications

Hello G.R. Allison! Ok. You're right. My fault. Without being an excuse for the fact that I did not, from the start, explain things properly, the fact is that I was placing the correct map in place in about 30 wikis... and that tends to make one's work somewhat mechanised and synthetic! Do apologize, nevertheless. Cheers! The Ogre (talk) 12:12, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Issues on Template:Groundbreaking destroyers page

Hi, it looks like you have made a trivial change to this page in order add a comment that says "Please don't cut up my reply like that in future, it's against convention here. I won't revert it for obvious reasons (the points you made are useful)" but it is not clear to whom you are addressing that.

I was the previous person to change that page and I changed the comments interleaved with your post. However all I did was to indent then (previously they had been outdented, see here) in order to make them more readable.

The interleaved comments were added by the IP editor

FerdinandFrog (talk) 12:59, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the ambiguity there, it was directed at the IP editor. It's just very irritating to me when that happens with the cut-ups. G.R. Allison (talk) 16:12, 12 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
