Andrei Knyazev (mathematician)
Andrew Knyazev (AK) is a Russian-American mathematician. He obtained his PhD in Numerical Mathematics at the Russian Academy of Sciences in 1985. Since 1994, he is Professor of Mathematics at the University of Colorado Denver.
AK is mostly known for his work in numerical solution of large sparse eigenvalue problems, particularly the iterative method LOBPCG. Knyazev's paper on LOBPCG from 2001 has been cited over 70 times (as of April 2010) in Web of Knowledge and over 160 times according to Google Scholar.
An implementation of LOBPCG is available in the public software package BLOPEX, maintained by AK. BLOPEX supports parallel MPI-based computations. BLOPEX is incorporated in the HYPRE package the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and is available as an external block to the PETSc from Argonne National Laboratory. SLEPc and PHAML have interfaces to call BLOPEX eigensolvers
