Tripura Institute of Technology

Formarly known as Polytechnic Institute, Narsingarh, Tripura (W) the college has been given a status for BE college. It contains diploma and degree module. In diploma module it offers 3 years diploma in following eight branches: 1) Civil Engineering 2) Mechanical Engineering 3) Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering 4) Computer Science & Technology 5) Electrical Engieering 6) Automobile Engineering 7) Food Processing Technology 8) Architectural Assistanceship

The Institute is situated at Narsingarh in the West Tripura district of Tripura, an ideal setting for a seat of technical education with a backdrop of quiet and pristine surroundings. Located at a distance of 12 km from Agartala main city and 1 km from Agartala Airport.

The Institute is fully equipped with Class rooms, Tutorial Halls, Laboratories, Workshops, LRUC, Central Library, Conference Hall, Central Computing facilities, Auditorium, Campus LAN with Internet & Intercom facilities etc. A additional state of the art new Academic and administrative Buildings adjacent to the present campus will come up by 2009.

Mandate

The TIT is a Co-educational Government Institute under Department of Higher Education, Government of Tripura to provide AICTE Approved Diploma & Degree (B.E.) Programmes in Engineering and Technology to the candidates selected as per prescribed norms laid down by the State Government. Curriculum & evaluation systems are to be in conformity to the requirements of the Tripura University (A Central University) to meet the demands and needs of the stakeholders. The Institute has the responsibility to meet the Socia-Economic and Technological development needs of the community by providing need based services in formal as well as in informal areas.

The Tripura Institute of Technology Narsingarh is recognized by Dept. of Higher Education, Govt. of Tripura, approved by AICTE, New Delhi, and affiliated to Tripura University (A Central University).

About the Institute

The institute (erstwhile Polytechnic Institute, Narsingarh) bred from its embryo in the year 1958 with three conventional branches of Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, affiliated to West Bengal State Council of Technical Education. Later, one more branch namely Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering paved its way into the system in the year 1995.

The institute through its excellence and glorified journey over a period of more than 45 years could attract name, fame and reputation countrywide and as a result the Ministry of Human Resource was kind enough to extend its assistance through World Bank under Tech. Ed.-III Project for the growth of this institute in terms of capacity expansion and quality improvement during the period from 2001 to 2007. Implementation of this project assistance by the Government of Tripura commensurated sea changes in the institutional infrastructure resulting into the opening up of 5 (five) more new branches such as Computer Science & Technology, Food Processing Technology, Automobile Engineering, Interior Decoration Handicrafts & Furniture Designing and Modern Office Practice & Management. Huge procurement of equipment and machineries, books and LRs, introduction of new labs and other infrastructure development have multiplied the academic resources of the institute and opened the floodgate before the aspirants for nourishing their academic and technical excellence.

The Institute is administered by Education (Higher) Department, Government of Tripura and is affiliated to the Tripura University. With the introduction of the degree module from the academic session 2007-08 the entire academic control of both degree and diploma would come under Tripura University. The diploma level students already registered under West Bengal State Council of Technical Education up to the academic session 2006-07 would however remain tied up with WBSCTE. The curricula and other academic control of the Tripura Institute of Technology both of diploma and degree would remain directly under the control of Tripura University from June, 2007.

The Infrastructure

TIT is affiliated to the TRIPURA UNIVERSITY (A CENTRAL UNIVERSITY), AGARTALA, is the one of the prominent institute of the state to qualify for running the B. E. Programme. The first session which commenced in the year 2007, admitted 180 students in degree module and 240 students in diploma module according to the regulations of the AICTE and Tripura University.. Within a short time, TIT, with state-of-the-art infrastructure, has conducted all the experiments required for the Programme.

COMPUTER LABORATORIES

Fully equipped with HCL, PCS and others machinery along with the latest software applicable in the fields of Object Oriented Programming (OOPS), Operational Research (OR), Software Engineering, Web Technology and specialized designing and modelling packages exclusively for the B. E. students.

ELECTRONICS AND TELECOMM ENGINEERING LAB

Electronics and Communication Engineering Laboratory developed specifically for training in basic electronic circuitry, antennae engineering, microwave engineering, analogue and digital electronics, with ample back up instruments from leading international manufactures for each students to work individually.

MECHANICAL AND ELECTRICAL MACHINE SHOPS

Mechanical and Electrical Machine Shops equipped with CentralLathes, Shaping Machines, Drilling Machines, electrical shop fitted with both AC and DC Motors, Generators and Alternators with instruments for Circuit and Systems Labs.

ENGINEERING MECHANICS LAB

Engineering Mechanics Lab, Kinematics and Dynamics Lab, Fluid Mechanics & Solid Mechanics Labs fully equipped and functional.

PHYSICS LAB

The Physics Laboratory is equipped for LASER, Fiber Optics and Ultrasonic experiments besides the usual training facilities.

CHEMISTRY AND MECHANICAL WORKSHOPS

The Mechanical workshop houses Milling m/c, Lathe m/c including Bench type Lathe, Radial Drilling, Sensitive Drilling m/c, Grinder, Shaping, Power hacksaw, Blending m/c, Spot Welding m/c, etc. Moulds are designed and fabricated using CAD (AutoCAD-2002) software for outside parties/ customers.

PROGRAMMING LAB, DBMS LAB, AUTOCAD LAB, INTERNET TECHNOLOGY LAB

The students enrolled in B. E. in Computers, Information Technology, Electronics and Communication and Mechanical can do practical in C++, HTML and AutoCAD in one person one computer basis.

HARDWARE LAB

The hardware lab gives the students an insight in learing various hardware aspects of computer systems. The students get real time exposure to assembling, troubleshooting various computer systems and related peripherals. This lab helps the students to build up a thorough knowledge in basic components of computers.

INTERNET LABORATORY

The internet lab is fully connected through Optic Fibre cable (OFC). The institute has its own LAN in the campus. The lab is equipped with high speed internet connection available 24x7 hours.
