Summary
At the beginning, it is found out that cats of the Dark Forest are training Breezepelt in the same way they trained Lionblaze. Tigerstar and Hawkfrost begin to visit Ivypaw in her dreams and teaches her the ways of the dead warriors while persuading her that they are from StarClan. Leopardstar loses her last life, and Mistyfoot takes her place as leader of RiverClan. Firestar finds out about the Three, and delivers a crucial piece of information: The prophecy is not from StarClan.
After days of rain, Dovepaw senses a tree on the edge of the hollow coming loose. She warns Firestar and the clan evacuates camp before the tree falls. But when Longtail and Briarlight go back into camp the tree falls; killing Longtail and paralizing Briarpaw's hind legs. From Leafpool's help Jayfeather finds out that Littlecloud had the same problem with another cat, and that cat eventually died due to not getting enough exercise and allowing a disease to build up in her chest. Jayfeather vows not to let Briarlight die, but near the end of the book Briarlight starts to develop a cough and also may die.
Tigerstar tells Ivypaw that giving a strip of land to ShadowClan has endangered the clan. Ivypaw believes Tigerstar and tells Firestar that she had a dream from StarClan of ShadowClan invading and he and the senior warriors decide to fight for the land. During the battle Lionblaze accidently kills Russetfur and Firestar loses a life. Lionblaze realizes the battle should not have happened, and wonders if the Dark Forest was behind it.
