"201 (South Park)"

"201" is the sixth episode of the fourteenth season of South Park, and the 201st overall episode of the series. It aired on Comedy Central April 21st, 2010. It is a conclusion of the previous episode.

Plot

The episode begins with a flashback of Mitch Connor in the Vietnam War, then it tends to the present where Mr. Garrison refuses to reveal the identity of Cartman's father to Cartman, and instead sends him to Dr. Mephisto. Meanwhile, the Ginger Separatist Movement and the townsfolk are negotiating the handover of Muhammad when Mecha-Streisand begins to attack South Park. Muhammad, who is visually obscured throughout the entire episode by a black box superimposed with the word "CENSORED", is taken by Stan, Kyle, and Kenny to Dr. Mephisto's lab. There, the Gingers make their way into the lab and retrieve Muhammad. They agree to share Muhammad with the celebrities in exchange for the use of the celebrities' "goo transfer" machine, and hand Cartman over to Scott Tenorman, the "head ginger". Scott reveals to Cartman that his own father Jack, a former Denver Broncos player whom Cartman had arranged to be killed in a previous episode, also fathered Cartman, making Scott and Cartman half-brothers.

Tom Cruise is the first celebrity to receive Muhammad's "goo" via the transfer machine. A "CENSORED" box then appears over Cruise as well, and Cruise declares himself immune to ridicule. After neutralizing Mecha-Streisand, the Super Best Friends attack the Ginger lair, where the Gingers and celebrities have already begun fighting over further use of the transfer machine. Super Best Friend member Seaman scuffles with Cruise, causing Stan to remark that "Tom Cruise has Seaman on his back." The "CENSORED" box disappears and Cruise becomes angered that the "goo" is not working. Tenorman escapes, and Kyle interjects by announcing that "there is no goo". He, Jesus, and Santa Claus all give monologues that appease the squabbling parties, though continuous audio bleeps prevent the viewer from hearing the contents of each speech.

The town begins to rebuild after the Mecha-Streisand attack. Cartman is grieving over the fact that he has just learned he is "half ginger", but Connor mollifies him by reminding Cartman that he is also "half Bronco". Cruise is still dejected, and wishes he could go somewhere to live without fear of mockery. Stan and Kyle reveal that they know such a place and will help Cruise get there. The episode ends with a static image of Cruise and the orca from "Free Willzyx" both lying dead on the Moon.

Cultural references

Scott Tenorman's dialogue, appearance and his lair draws parallel to The Joker from the 1988 comic The Killing Joke.

During the opening scene, which was flashback by Mitch Connor, of the Vietnam War in 1972, the popular 60s song Time of the Season by the Zombies, is played in the background.

Jesus throws his halo in the same way that Xena: Warrior Princess often threw her chakram.

The scene where Mitch tricked Mephisto into letting him in is a reference to A Clockwork Orange

Censorship

According to the South Park Studios webpage, Comedy Central censored episode 201 after delivery but before airing. The episode is not officially available online because the studio does not have network clearance to air the unedited version.[1] Censorship also affected the rebroadcasting of episode 201 on Comedy Central. New episodes of South Park are usually re-aired at least three times on Comedy Central: at midnight on the following Thursday morning, at 10:30 PM on the same Thursday, and at 11:00 PM that Sunday. Instead of episode 201, the network re-aired "The Tale of Scrotie McBoogerballs" in the midnight rebroadcasting slot, and according to Comedy Central's TV schedule will again re-air Scrotie McBoogerballs on Thursday night.[2] The network will also re-air "You Have 0 Friends" in the Sunday night rebroadcasting spot instead of episode 201.[3]
