Greta Morgan Salpeter (born February 12, 1988) is the pianist and one of the lead singers for the band The Hush Sound. While the band is on hiatus, she has started a solo project entitled Gold Motel, with an EP released and a first album on the way. She also uses the stage name Greta Morgan.
Background
Since the age of two, she has been a classically-trained pianist. She first met guitarist/vocalist of The Hush Sound, Bob Morris, when watching Monsters, Inc. with mutual friends in 2001[1]. The two started playing together and created The Hush Sound, later recruiting Chris Faller on bass and Darren Wilson on drums. She graduated early from Benet Academy in 2006[citation needed] in order to tour on the Black Clouds and Underdogs Tour with Fall Out Boy and The All-American Rejects.
Personal life
Salpeter has identified herself as a vegetarian. She came in "a close second" on the 2008 World's Sexiest Vegetarian list announced by peta2, PETA's young adult division.[2] As well as her views on vegetarianism, she has also aired her political views. In the August 2008 issue of Alternative Press magazine, she spoke out about whether America was ready for change:
"The educated youth of America are ready to have a president in office who will take us out of Iraq, be committed to environmental change and refine the health care system. Beyond that, we need an overall renaissance. We need to make organic farming more prominent and accessible, make the arts more present in schools, preserve forests and wildlife in America and educate students to make decisions to help our generation take responsibility for this world. I'm hoping that by electing a president who will inspire hope in the youth, something like a renaissance will begin."[3]
Career and music
As well as being the vocalist and pianist for The Hush Sound, Salpeter has also been known to play the guitar[4] bass guitar, and drums.
Salpeter is featured as the character Princess Anhura in Forgive Durden's album, Razia's Shadow: A Musical. She is featured on the songs "It's True Love," "Meet The King," and "The End And The Beginning." She can also be heard at the end of "The Exit" and "Doctor Doctor."
Gold Motel
In May 2009, following the announcement of a "vacation" for The Hush Sound,[5] Salpeter began a solo project named Gold Motel. At about the same time, she changed her stage name to Greta Morgan. Gold Motel consists of Morgan (vocals, songs, piano/organ/keyboards), Eric Hehr (guitar), Dan Duszynski (guitar, vocals), Matt Minx (bass), Adam Kaltenhauser (drums).[6]
