John Baptista Ashe (Continental Congress)

John Baptista Ashe (1748-1802) was an American planter, soldier, and statesman from North Carolina. He was a Colonel in the Continental Army, served at Valley Forge, and fought in the Battle of Eutaw Springs. He was a delegate to the Continental Congress in 1787, and a representative in the U.S. Congress from 1790 to 1793. In 1802 he was elected Governor of North Carolina, but he died on November 27, 1802 before assuming office.
His namesake and nephew John Baptista Ashe served in the congress from Tennessee.
