Recent Success??

We should probably rename the Recent Success section in light of Hull's relegation from the Premier League. Or at least put in another paragraph dealing with the monetary issues, relegation and allegations of frivolous spending at the club. Seems misleading to effectively end the history of a club going into administration in a paragraph referencing success.

I know this isn't really to do with this page, but it is fairly relevant, so bear with me! Any ideas why the Adam Pearson article was deleted yesterday? Managed to find the deletion log, though there isn't any (legit) reason given. Thanks, TomiG 18:08, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe I would like some info on football manager 2008 hull team and possibly best tactics and good cheap players.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.153.189.237 (talk) 16:19, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

2006 - referencing

The current article states: "Chairman Adam Pearson has stated his ambition to take Hull into the top flight for the first time in their history - and he believes Phil Parkinson is the manager to do it." Firstly, where's the reference point for the quote? Secondly, with Hull sat at the bottom of the Championship, it would be good to reference this now - Rgds, - Trident13 19:03, 24 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He's stated this numerous times - I'll add a reference if I can find one. Difficult with radio interviews though! Beve 11:46, 25 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Boaz Myhill's nationality

Born in the USA to English parents, he grew up in England. So what nationality is he and which flag should go against his name? I think English, as I think he would only play for England - I know he's already turned down the opportunity to play for Wales. Thoughts? Beve 11:36, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

English MikesPlant 17:25, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

he is english as he has played for England under 20's even though he was born in America to an American father and english mother81.178.229.100 12:44, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notable former players

I trimmed this list down a bit, for the following reasons:

  • I think it should be by nature be quite a brief list - the 'cream'.
  • I didn't feel that certain players were hugely notable - either for Hull City or in their own right. My feeling is that the list should comprise players who either are considered 'City legends' or who achieved at the highest level, before or after their City career.
  • If the player's Wikipedia entry was only a stub.

Apologies to the editor who put so much work into this. It's always going to be a subjective issue as to who is 'notable' and who isn't. I won't get into any edit wars on this; hopefully any disagreements can be sorted out on the talk page by getting a consensus view.
There are also quite a few City Legends who don't yet have a Wikipedia entry - for example Billy Bly, Ken Wagstaff, Chris Chilton and Tony Norman.
Beve 10:44, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A lot of the players I added (like Clint Marcelle for example) were added because they have appeared Internationally for their country, that in itself makes a player notable.
Others such as Peter Barnes (footballer) has won PFA Young Player of the Year (as did Steve Moran) in his history as well as playing for Manchester United. David Brown (footballer) player over a 100 games for Hull City. John Downie is a notable player because he made over 100 appearences for Manchester United. Sam Weaver has been capped by the England national side...
These things assert the players notability. Of course they may not have been as great at City as elsewhere, but for extample Thierry Henry is mentioned as a notable former player at Juventus, as is David Beckham at Preston North End.
I'd have no problem if the people who were legends at City (who you mentioned) were added alongside these too. - Deathrocker 16:07, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Trivia

Hull is the largest city in Europe never to have had a club play in the top division of its national league.

What about Bonn / Bonner SC? Xmth 13:26, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm. Apparently, there were 16 parallel divisions during the Third Reich and Bonn had two clubs in 'their' regional divison. Xmth 13:01, 27 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Here's an article that discusses the issue [1]. Beve (talk) 20:32, 26 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Now it's 'Hull WAS the largest..." lol...but they'll be going straight back down! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.4.6.146 (talk) 21:42, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Needless to say, that obsolete fact was removed. Digifiend (talk) 13:05, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This article http://www.hullcityonline.com/news/loadroll.asp?cid=EDZ1&id=392608 lays this rumour to rest. Hull never even came close to being the biggest city in Europe without a top flight football team. This article cites, for example, Ufa in Russia which has over a million people, plus another example in Wiesbaden in Germany. Mrobertsbcn (talk) 13:56, 10 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Attendance

Is the attendance of 86,703 at Wembly the largest crowd that Hull City have ever played in front of? I think that it may be. LewisR (talk) 23:42, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Must be - it was the first time they'd ever played there, and Wembley has the largest capacity of any football ground in Britain! Digifiend (talk) 13:04, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The thing is that Wembley isnt Hull's home ground 88.104.203.61 (talk) 15:17, 1 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Hull City badge.jpg

Image:Hull City badge.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 03:42, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion

Why does the discussion content keep getting removed? This is accurate information, and not vandalism, —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ghurkin (talkcontribs) 15:30, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It's getting deleted because the encyclopaedia requires that you cite reliable sources and not engage in original research.  Doonhamer | Banter  15:36, 13 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ghurkin 15:40, 13 September 2007 (UTC) There is original content in that.. The fact that Jay Jay Okocha posts on the board under the pseudonym Jonny_Boon[reply]

GA passed

I have passed the article, as I think it meets all the criteria, and is of a comparable standard to other sports team GAs. However, here are some ideas to improve the article further:

  • Running through the article with a fine-toothed comb to improve the prose quality. Some useful advice for doing this is given at User:Tony1/How to satisfy Criterion 1a.
  • Remove extra links for articles which are linked multiple times e.g. Manchester United is linked four times. Similarly, ensure all football club links are piped to remove the F.C. or A.F.C. from view. Done
  • While not directly concerning this article, Hull City A.F.C. Reserves and Hull City A.F.C. Juniors could be merged; both articles are stubs and there is some repetition. Done
  • The picture of Boothferry Park could be better (assuming the ground is still standing) - trees and bushes make up more of the image than the stadium. Done
  • The record league finish could be mentioned at the relevant point in the history section. Oldelpaso 17:49, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I spy two red links. Auto-forward to Hull City A.F.C. Reserves and Academy? Digifiend (talk) 13:43, 23 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Player Notability

I've removed deletion notices on a couple more current player's pages. The reason for deletion listed was that the player is not competing professionally at a top level. Hull will be playing in the Premier League this season, I don't know how much more top level you can get. Shuttered (talk) 19:48, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Billy Russell

Billy Russell is Scottish and is shown under past managers as English.

Could someone please change this as I am unable to as I have just registered to Wikipedia. (Benjybobs (talk) 11:59, 26 July 2008 (UTC))[reply]

mishtake shurely?

"The club's greatest achievement in cup competitions was in 1930, when they reached the FA Cup semi-final.[7] The cup run saw Hull knocking out Leeds United and eventual Champions of the Second and Third Division; Blackpool and Plymouth Argyle respectively"

They never played Leeds in that cup run: FAC 3 Plymouth Argyle A 4-3, FAC 4 Blackpool H 3-1, FAC 5 Manchester City A 2-1, FAC 6 Newcastle United A 1-1, FAC 6R Newcastle United H 1-0, FAC SF Arsenal N 2-2, FAC SFR Arsenal N 0-1.

Kit colour

The kit looks a bit off-colour. --➨Candlewicke  :) Sign/Talk 21:59, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Did you mean the amber of the home kit? I made it a bit more vivid; it seems a better match to the colour in the badge now. Doonhamer (talk) 22:15, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalising

I deleted a line above the history section which was writing: "Oliver Ashley and his Grandpa Support Hull City".I consider that as vandalizing and measures should be taken to prevent this from happening again in this article. Gunner0095 (talk) 19:54, 17 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dowie

Iain Dowie isn't the club's manager - the manager is stil Phil Brown. Brown is on gardening leave. Dowie is a "temporary football management consultant". See http://www.hullcityafc.net/page/WhosWho/0,,10338,00.html and http://www.hullcityafc.net/page/NewsDetail/0,,10338~1994482,00.html which confirms Brown has been relieved of his duties and placed on gardening leave - but not sacked (first link - the club's Who's Who - still lists him as manager) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.212.47.102 (talk) 18:42, 27 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
