K Vijay Kumar (b. 15 September, 1952) is an Indian IPS officer from the state of Tamil Nadu, who was the Chief of the Special Task Force that was behind the assassination of notorious bandit Veerappan.[1] In 2008, he was chosen to head the National Police Academy.[2][3]

Personal Life

Vijay Kumar is the second son of Krishnan Nair and Kousalya. He is having five other siblings.

Professional Career

Vijay Kumar was part of the Special Protection Group (SPG) team that provided security cover to late Rajiv Gandhi. He was also the Commissioner of Police, Chennai City, for two years and later took charge as Additional Director-General of Police (Law and Order).

Vijay Kumar have also served as an Inspector-General of Police (Operations) in the Border Security Force and as the Deputy Inspector-General of Police with the Special Security Group.[4]
