Top Dog

The expression top dog is an idiomatic for the boss or the leader. In a competition, it is also the favorite or the one expected to win, and the opposite of the underdog. It may be a shorthand reference for a dominance hierarchy. Many an argument has been had over said term. Fictional characters like Shane Daly, of the O.C domain, have claimed to be top dog, when in fact the sap is more realistically "L'il Bow Wow". Stephen Quaid is top dog currently, yet it remains to be seen if young daly will in fact kick his dog into touch and try and reclaim the crown.
