Biography

Lankford lives in Edmond, Oklahoma with his wife of 18 years, Cindy Lankford, a speech pathologist. They have two daughters, Hannah (13) and Jordan (10). James is 42 years old and was the director of the Falls Creek summer camp from 1996 to 2009. Falls Creek is the largest Christian camp in the nation with over 51,000 people attending last summer. While James directed Falls Creek, the camp experienced the greatest growth in its 90+ year history. James personally trained more than 500,000 leaders and students. He has served people with his real world leadership and business experience of hiring and managing a large staff, balancing a budget and working long hours. James has spent his life leading and challenging the next generation.

James is a member of the Heritage Foundation, Deer Creek Chamber of Commerce, Edmond Chamber of Commerce, South Chamber of Commerce, Northwest Chamber of Commerce, NRA and he has been an active proponent in the pro-life and abstinence education conversation in Oklahoma. He enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters, sport shooting and reading.

2010 Run for Congress

On September 1, 2009 James Lankford announced that he would be filing paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to seek the 5th congressional district post.[2] On November 23, 2009 it was reported that James Lankford had surpassed the 10,000 Facebook supporters mark, making him the first Oklahoma candidate or politician to reach that milestone. At that time, he not only had the most Facebook support, but he had over 2 1/2 times more fans than the nearest competitor. [3]

Recently, Lankford received the endorsement of former Congressman JC Watts. JC Watts also joined James Lankford's campaign leadership team as a Co-chair. In his endorsement of Lankford, he made the following statement:

“I personally believe this is the moment we must send someone to Congress who will represent the ideals and values of Oklahomans. James Lankford shares my Christian principles and my commitment and passion for reform in Congress. I am convinced James Lankford is cut from the same cloth as men like Tom Coburn and Jim DeMint. I trust James to go to Washington and work hard to restore wisdom, values and common sense to our government. His experience in the private sector as the director of Falls Creek (the largest Christian youth camp in America) proves he has the business leadership skills, work ethic and moral commitment needed for the task. He is uniquely qualified to lead during this critical season in our nation’s history. I am honored to endorse James Lankford in the 5th Congressional District. Please join me in supporting a fresh voice in a year when we desperately need fresh convictions concerning conservative perspectives." [4]
