Chennai 600028 is a 2007 Indian Tamil sports comedy feature film written and directed by Venkat Prabhu, making his directorial debut. The film stars 11 actors, namely Shiva, Premji Amaran, Aravind Akash, Jai, Nithin Sathya and newcomers Ajay Raj, Ranjith, Vijay Vasanth, Prasanna, Karthik and Arun in lead roles along with Vijayalakshmi, daughter of National Film Award-winning director Agathiyan, and Christine Zedek, playing the female lead artists, making their acting debut as well. The film was produced by Venkat Prabhu's best friend and son of singing legend S. P. Balasubramanyam, S. P. B. Charan along with J. K. Saravana, a Singapore-based award-winning producer.[1] The film's score and soundtrack were composed by Premji Amaran and Yuvan Shankar Raja, respectively.
The film, based on street cricket played in India and focussing on various themes as friendship, love and rivalry in a suburban area, released on 27 April 2007 and went on to become one of the biggest blockbusters of the year. The film's title is derived from the pin code of "Mandaveli", a suburb of Chennai, where the story plays. The success of the film gained the relatively unknown lead actors as Shiva, Premji Amaren, Jai and Nithin Sathya and also newcomers Vijayalakshmi, Vijay Vasanth and the director Venkat Prabhu himself fame, making them very popular and a household name in Kollywood. Upon release, the film was dubbed into Telugu and released as Kodithe Kottalira.[2]
Plot
The movie is about two small local cricket league teams that compete against each other in local matches and consider each other as sworn enemies. Royapuram Rockers are on top of the chain and keep bashing Sharks year after year. The heroes of the movie are the Sharks team. This movie has cricket as the central theme.

The film score of the film was scored by Venkat Prabhu's brother, Premji Amaren, whilst Venkat Prabhu's cousin, Yuvan Shankar Raja composed the soundtrack, which also featured two tracks that were rearranged by Premji Amaren. The soundtrack, featuring 9 tracks overall, was released on 22 February 2007 in India and three days later in Singapore and Malaysia.[3] The audio was launched at the radio station Radio Mirchi, broadcasting all the songs live, which was said to be the first time in India.[3] The lyrics were written by 'Kavignar' Vaali and Gangai Amaran, father of Venkat Prabhu. Also composer Yuvan Shankar Raja turned lyricist, penning the lyrics for the song "Natpukullae", besides singing it himself. 19 singers had rendered their voices for the songs, including Yogi B, DJ Funky Sathiya and SilveStar, two Singaporean rappers, actor Karunas, director Venkat Prabhu and producer S. P. B. Charan.
The album was both critically acclaimed and gained immense popularity upon its release, being described as, "excellent", a "rocking album"[4] and one of the "aesthetic highlights" of the film.[5] Also the songs were said to be a big hit as reportedly 25000 CD's were sold out on the very first day,[6] "ruling the charts" worldwide,[7] whilst the "Jalsa" and "Saroja Saman Nikalo" songs were "rocking the dance floors"[8]
