Jim Schaefer is a journalist based in Detroit, Michigan, for The Detroit Free Press.

He graduated from Ohio State University. He was an investigative producer for WXYZ-TV.

He led an investigation into fentanyl.

He covered for Detroit Free Press Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his various scandals that ultimately led to Kilpatrick's resignation and criminal conviction.[1] To break the case open, the reporters filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit that was heard by the Michigan Supreme Court. [2]
