Pronunciation

The article says it's "(pronounced ã-doo-yet)". Is that correct? My basic French would have led me to call it "ã-dwee-yet" or something like that.

Is this a cajun thing? Or have I just forgotten how to pronounce french words? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.237.250.75 (talk) 05:21, 31 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Added an IPA pronunciation guide. The informal "ã-doo-yet" was pretty correct, assuming ã is supposed to be nasal. "ã-dwee-yet" is not correct. While "oui" alone (or with an 's' at the end) is usually pronounced "wee", in the context of "ouil" (e.g. fenouil) or "ouille" (e.g. grenouille) it's parsed in French as "ou-ille", roughly corresponding to English "oo-ye". Then you add the "ette" ending, getting "oo-yet". -Krasnoludek (talk) 18:12, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Taste and texture POV

This article seems to be rather lacking in objectivity where andouillette is concerned, written from the point of view of someone unfamiliar with this specialty. allolex 06:45, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also rather narrow in its choice of audience. Why is it important that it be acceptable to the American palate? evolvon 16:26, 16 October 2007 (GMT)

I've had andouillette and while it has a characteristic taste and texture, it didn't remind me of feces at all. In fact it was delicious. This article appears to have been largely written by people who hate the stuff, or who ate dodgy ones. Lexo (talk) 13:18, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

While opinions do vary as to what the stuff smells like, a significant number of people do think it smells like feces. I appreciate Amabbett's effort to maintain a NPOV, but this popular conception bears mentioning despite any one person's opinion that it is false.

I had some last week. I'm not sure what it smells of, but it definitely smells very strong. -- lionfish. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.35.212.60 (talk) 16:45, 8 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is also probably worth mentioning that there are both French and Cajun styles, which differ significantly. Bjartmarr (talk) 08:16, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It is not wrong to mention that a lot of people find an andouillette disgusting. This is not also the case in the US, I think it applies to a very big part of the world. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.201.206.213 (talk) 22:20, 30 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I had never heard of andouillette until I saw this picture. Having now read the article, and discovered that andouillette is said to smell like shit, I think the translator was probably right. +Angr 00:06, 5 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This picture is quite hilarious! I tried to neutralise the text while keeping clear that like with many strong foods, many people find the smell... questionable. Even some French acknowledge that :-) There is in France a repeated quote of the politician Edouard Herriot saying that La politique, c'est comme l'andouillette, ça doit sentir un peu la merde, mais pas trop i.e. "Politics is like andouillette, it must smell like shit a bit, but not too much"... Note that http://accordingtobreal.blogspot.com/2008/07/i-we-dont-do-andouille.html given by Angr as reference does not refer to andouillette but to andouille - though the products and the smells are related, those are different dishes, especially regarding texture. You're right, and worse: that blog is merely quoting an earlier version of this Wikipedia article! So it really can't be taken as a reliable source (and indeed I didn't list it as a reference for that reason). But I think it should be possible to find reliable sources saying andouillette smells like poo, or at least has been described by some observers as smelling like poo. +Angr 22:41, 2 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I can tell first hand that it makes people not used to its peculiar taste vomit. It does smell like shit. The French seem to like it, but imho a little warning to Wikipedia users is appropriate. Joepnl (talk) 16:10, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
