The Battle of Fengqiu was a battle between Cao Cao and Yuan Shu in the spring of 193 during the prelude to the Three Kingdoms period in China. Cao Cao emerged victorious against Yuan Shu's forces.
Battle
Cao Cao’s army at Juancheng numbered thirty thousand troops. Liu Biao, cut off Yuan Shu’s grain supply. As a result, Yuan Shu led his army of ten thousand into Chenliu, garrisoning Fengqiu where the remainder of the Black Mountain bandits and Yufuluo’s men lent him their aid. The bandits of Heishan and the Shanyu opposed him. Yuan Shu sent his general Liu Xiang to garrison Kuangting. When Cao Cao attacked Liu Xiang, Yuan Shu provide him with reinforcements, both sides battled and Yuan Shu were badly defeated. Yuan Shu retreated to defend Fengqiu. Then Cao Cao subsequently moved to surround the town before he could complete the movement, Yuan Shu fled to Xiangyi. Cao Cao pursued to Taishou and diverted the waters of the Qu River from Xiangyi cutting off the canal supplying water to the city.After, Yuan Shu fled to Ningling and Cao Cao pursued Yuan Shu retreat toward Jiujiang. In the summer, Cao Cao finally withdrew with his army to Dingtao.[1] [2] [3]
