What episode reveals patrick's REAL parents names & what episode are they seen in? THE EPISODE IS I am with stupid spongebob episode

Something I Noticed
This article looks like it was typhttp://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Talk:List_of_characters_in_SpongeBob_SquarePants&action=edited by a 9-year old fan who is trying to act funny, no offense. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.123.14.114 (talk) 20:52, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
- You're right...the tone of the entries is totally inappropriate to an encyclopedica article. They sound more like what you'd find on a page at Nick Jr aimed at ten year olds. PurpleChez (talk) 23:32, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

A source that could be used: Jerry Beck's Not Just Cartoons: Nicktoons!
I found a book in the bookstore called Not Just Cartoons: Nicktoons! by Jerry Beck. I'm not going to buy it and join the project, but I will ask the other members to get the book so that they can add real world information about various fictional characters.
This makes the creation of separate articles for *many* fictional characters feasible. Having information about the development of the character will make the articles satisfy Wikipedia:Notability (fiction) WhisperToMe (talk) 20:37, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
More Articles
I move that Squidward should atleast have his own article. If you say no, then why does Bender, Maggie Simpson or others have their own character article? --JiveSan (talk) 06:29, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
- While pointing out other articles is not a valid argument (even though I have no idea why), I agree that some characters, most notably Patrick, Squidward, and Sandy should have their own articles Frank Anchor, U. S. American (talk, contribs) 00:33, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
- To have an article on one of the other characters, we would need them to be discussed and/or analyzed in a scholarly article or a book. Do a search on "Maggie Simpson" on Google scholar and you get books like The Simpsons and Philosophy: The D'oh! of Homer and Machiavelli Meets Mayor Quimby: Political Commentary in the First Season of The Simpsons and journal articles like The Polis of Springfield: The Simpsons and the Teaching of Political Theory and The Varieties of Civic Experience. Character Articles
Why were the character articles deleted? They had information on major characters who frequently appeared on the show. Now only Spongebob has an article. Even if he is the most important character, being the title character, the major, regular characters should have articles. 68.63.95.177 (talk) 07:23, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
who deleted the character articles ?94.192.30.13 (talk) 22:38, 8 February 2010 (UTC) I think that all main characters should have a main article, and for a few other character too.

I would like to see an official Wikipedia policy page on AnteaterZot's stance please. Considering AnteaterZot has been banned indefinitely, he probably can't show it to us. So, if no policy turns up, can we make the character pages now?--Exer 505 (talk) 18:42, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
- The appropriate pages are the Notability guideline, the Writing about Fiction guideline, Verifiability policy and the Plot Summary section in What Wikipedia Is Not. Despite the user's banning, AnteaterZot's comment was accurate in this instance. Without third party, independent sources, there is nothing to build an article on other than simply retelling information from episodes. Bill (talk|contribs) 20:59, 16 June 2008 (UTC)

Missing characters
Manray and the dirty Bubble arnt mentioned. neither is bubble buddy. Sorry if this comment is misplaced
Wilbur and Orville are two security guards at tentacle acres, they are mentioned in the episode "Reef Blower," and are knocked unconscious by the odor of fried oyster skins on Patrick's breath and they aren't mentioned either. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.240.52.137 (talk) 05:19, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Barnacle Boy isn't mentioned either! He is VERY important. I don't think that the Tentacle Acres guards should be listed, as that's only one episode. —Preceding unsigned comment added by JRH95 (talk • contribs) 16:03, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

Lots of edits
Looked over and edited the Supporting characters section and deleted a few unneeded characters (Like scuba steve) and made minor edits to wording and grammar. Feel free to put a character back if you want, just tell why on here first. Note: If I made a spelling mistake or a grammar mistake, just fix it :P Mumbles (talk) 00:46, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
Clear Up
- This is a character article. Not character with a role article. Make a subject saying minor characters. It is useful to put up all characters.

In the section with old man Jenkins, poison was spelled as "posions". I fixed that. (unsigned)

Timmy?
Timmy has never appeared in the show, and the 'Spongebob Timmy Power Hour' that is mentioned is a fanfic. So, I've deleted Timmy from the list, due to him being only from the fanficverse. --Tonberreh (talk) 15:54, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
- There is a Timmy, as in a resident of Bikini Bottom. -AMK152(Talk • Contributions • Send message) 20:55, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
Yes, but I'm talking about the fact that it says 'Timmy Turner', and that his only appearence is the 'Spongebob Timmy Power Hour' which never existed besides being a fanfic written on a site I know. --Tonberreh (talk) 02:15, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
- I've removed the entire section. As I said in my edit summary, they're not characters from SpongeBob SquarePants and so shouldn't be listed here. The crossover episodes could be discussed in the main article or the season articles. The fan fiction should probably not be mentioned unless it has been acknowledged by Nickelodeon or a critic or something. Bill (talk|contribs) 06:33, 29 June 2008 (UTC)
Squidward relatives
Should Squidly be included in the article due to the obvious relation? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Protoatom (talk • contribs) 17:55, 6 July 2008 (UTC) He doesn't have a significant role, so I'd say no. Pittsfordljb (talk) 02:14, 6 December 2008 (UTC)

I've suggested merging the newly recreated article on Patrick back here but after discussing with the editor that contributed content to it I think it's wise to gain a consensus first. Currently, there is no indication of individual notability for Patrick. I've tried finding stuff in the past but never been able to find anything significant that'd be able to give the article an out of universe perspective. The information that can be summarised from the episodes themselves is already/can be placed in the List of characters article. Bill (talk|contribs) 17:00, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- What can they possibly say in the new article that isn't just a restatement of what's in the main article? Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? 17:58, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- Update. Since I posted this message, the article has been submitted for a deletion discussion here. Bill (talk|contribs) 18:10, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Harold Squarepants?
Is that really Sponge's dad's name? Citation needed? User:cakeofages —Preceding undated comment was added at 22:57, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
Yes it is, and his mum is called Claire (Apparently, but I've never seen her name anywhere, only Harold's) - devoted spongebob fan :) Hirorulez (talk) 20:33, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
other characters
The characters Scooter, Sherm Squarepants, Harold, Jack M. Crazyfish, Mrs. Krabs (Mr. krabs' mother) should be added. Also, I think that Squidward, Sandy and the other major characters should have their own articles. <!Pittsfordljb> —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.33.174.133 (talk) 21:56, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
What constitutes a character??
It would be nearly impossible to list ALL of the characters. I think that a character has to appear at least twice to actually count. I mean, Spongebob has been going on, what, nine years? Not only do more than half of the characters only appear once, but often they don't really do anything. And I agree, all the main ones should have their own articles. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.33.174.133 (talk) 01:44, 4 October 2008 (UTC)
Scooter
Scooter is a purple fish who is often seen at the Goo Lagoon. He is a regular enough character, and I think he should be added to the list. Pittsfordljb (talk) 03:05, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
- I agree. Although he doesn't play a significant role in the SpongeBob universe, he is in more episodes than some of the characters listed Bovineboy2008 (talk) 04:01, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
- I've added an entry for Scooter because of the larger part he played in the Bubble Buddy storyline. (where he died lol) Bill (talk|contribs) 12:47, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

- Done. :) Bill (talk|contribs) 22:47, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
Goofy Goober
Goofy Goober redirects here. However, this minor character is not mentioned in the article. -- Gohnarch░░░░ 17:18, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
- That is a character from The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie that probably would be more useful as a redirect there. Bill (talk|contribs) 22:47, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
It sould also be mentioned that he has a cameo in "Chimps Ahoy", where SpongeBob shows his "Goofy Goober back scratcher".
--Mr Alex (talk) 00:27, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
Jack Benny reference
Included in the Squidward section is the comment "Critics note that his voice sounds similar to Jack Benny," which is not appropriate for the article. It's misleading because it was a single third-party author unaffiliated with the show, and not a consensus of critics, who made this statement. Plus, the quote is based on opinion and not fact. I could publish material about SBSP and say that Squidward sounded like George Burns, which wouldn't make it any more notable. If the style of his vocal mannerisms was confirmed by the series creators, then by all means it should be included. But it hasn't, and therefore I'm leaning towards having it removed. sixtynine • spill it • 22:15, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
- I added this with the intent of including some critical reception for the characters (still a work in progress) and give an overall out of universe angle to the article. As all reception information is based on the opinion of somebody independent of the creators then it's suitable content. The current context of the comment isn't clear that it is reception so it might need to be rewritten when there's more information, perhaps as a single reception section in the article for all the characters. Bill (talk|contribs) 22:47, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
Separate articles for each character.
I would like to get permission to create separate articles for each character from Spongebob Squarepants. Thanks. - Eugene Krabs (talk) 01:51, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
- There used to be individual articles for each character but the information was merged to the list. This was mostly because of the lack of secondary sources to use to build an article. Basically the article content was made up of conclusions drawn from show which went far beyond the purely descriptive use of primary sources that WP:PSTS allows for. The discussions for Patrick Star in particular have produced a consensus to present the information in a summarised way in this list instead of individual articles. If you have information on production of the individual characters, possibly reception details etc., then you could write separate articles, but without that I'd advise not to. --Bill (talk|contribs) 02:04, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
- What does reception details mean? - Eugene Krabs (talk) 02:18, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
- Reception is how the character was received by people. For example, information about the popularity of the character, critical opinion of the character, the character's use elsewhere (unofficially, but still has to be worth noting so more than just fanart, etc.). SpongeBob has received specific and notable comment from critics and fans which produced information that helped build a reception section.
I think the best way to expand each character is to find secondary sources and then build up the information in this list. When there's sufficient information for a character then we can create a standalone article for them. This list really could use some information on the development of each character, but in my experience trying to find sources it's going to be easier to just build a reception section for the characters as a whole instead of each individual one. --Bill (talk|contribs) 13:11, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

SpongePedia
Hello everyone, I am Andrewrox, co-boss/admin of SpongePedia and I would like to tell everyone that there is a much more reliable SpongeBob source than Wikipedia or the Wikia. SpongePedia has approximately 1075 articles ALL about SpongeBob, and we have more than 4.000.000 total page views. It is extremely popular. Wikipedia should let me put links to the main page on certain SpongeBob pages.--Andrewrox (talk) 10:26, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
- You should just add it as a referance somewhere. --Trevorrrj (talk) 12:33, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
Question
People are continually adding one-time characters to this page despite the editors' notes given in the "minor characters" section saying that characters must appear at least twice in order to be included in the list. Would that be sufficient reason for semi-protecting this page? 74.33.174.133 (talk) 20:48, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
Umm.. Missing Patrick
Patrick is totally missing on this page. He's not under major nor minor characters. --Trevorrrj (talk) 12:35, 30 May 2009 (UTC)
- Fixed. --ScreaminEagle (talk) 17:41, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
Mrs. Krabs
I think she is a significant enough character to be added here. Could anyone add more to her section? thanks.
- She already is there, but there doesn't seem to be much more to say about her. What would you suggest? --ScreaminEagle (talk) 00:31, 24 June 2009 (UTC)
Middle Names
Where are all these weird middle names coming from? I've never heard of them EVER. If I can't find a source, I'm going to delete them. --ScreaminEagle (talk) 12:57, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
I haven't heard of them either. To my knowledge, they aren't mentioned anywhere in the show. They've been here awhile, and still are unsourced, so I'll just go remove them. 74.33.174.133 (talk) 03:02, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
Character's own articles
I don't think that characters like Patrick and Squidward should have their own articles because Spongebob isn't a major cartoon like The Simpsons or Futurama, it's majority age group is between 4 and 10, i mean it's not like a grown-up is gonna go on wikipedia to look at a minor character from not the biggest of shows. The only reason Spongebob still has one is because he has plenty of information about himself and other characters, so i disagree with other characters having their own articles. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.24.156.254 (talk) 14:25, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
Patrick Ford Star?
At the section about Patrick, it says his middle name is Ford, THAT'S NEVER MENTIONED IN THE SHOW! this is just like when it listed Squidward's middle name as Quincy Jay and Sandy's as Jenifer, and Jenifer's not the right spelling, thanks who ever removed them. If i can't get a source of the middle name i'm going to delete it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.13.97.251 (talk) 16:46, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
Spongebob air Squarepants aka Musclebob Buffpants
Where on earth did this come from? obviously there's no article for it but what's it all about? I bet it was just some guy trying to be funny. Well let me tell you one thing, it's weird.--78.144.46.232 (talk) 10:32, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
Sidney Poseidon?
Is Sidney Poseidon worth mentioning in this article? I haven't seen any episodes after season 5 (judging by the direction things have been headed, I don't think I want to), so I don't know if he appeared more than once. 74.33.174.133 (talk) 22:04, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- If the character is played by a celebrity then yes. --Bill (talk|contribs) 23:18, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

Disturbing things in Spongebob
There are numerous things that are disturbingly incorrect in certain episodes and things that run through the show, 1. to start the name bikini bottom is rather rude for a kids show don't you think? 2. Sandy is a stereotype of an 1880s texan sherrif, there aren't even sherrifs nowadays you know! 3. In the episode Krabby Land, Mr Krabs is watching children play with binoculars, that's just a total breach of privacy now come on.--89.241.51.152 (talk) 15:57, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
- Just to confirm, you're not serious, right? --ScreaminEagle (talk) 20:13, 27 July 2009 (UTC)
Actually i am, if you must know--78.148.36.17 (talk) 10:41, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- You're actually saying that you've never heard of the origins of the bikini, that sherrifs haven't existed in the U.S. since the 19th century, and that using binoculars automatically makes a person a creepy pedophile. Surely you can see why I'm making certain you're serious before I say anything in response. --ScreaminEagle (talk) 19:50, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
SpongeBob Annuals
- I have some SpongeBob annuals / comics in my possession that give some background about Sandy Cheeks. Would they be suitable as references or sources for a Wikipedia article? I only ask as they refer to the SpongeBob - Sandy relationship so many fans are keen to promote, and I was worried that they'd be classed as vandalism and removed. --Crablogger (talk) 05:47, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
No, no, it's alright, if it contains liabil information, that's fine by me.--92.26.234.107 (talk) 08:18, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
- Like anything that gets added, as long it is well sourced and doesn't add undue weight to it (no need to write masses about it) then it's welcome in the article. --Bill (talk|contribs) 17:46, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
- OK, I've added them up. As Bill requested, I've tried to keep it as brief as possible. --Crablogger (talk) 06:25, 10 August 2009 (UTC)

Ages
What is this age mess that has been inserted into the article? I removed it, knowing full well it isn't true. Mokoniki | talk 00:35, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
- I couldn't agree more with you, the series has NEVER mentioned any character's ages (asides Pearl), so that was just a libelous addition.--Doughnuthead (talk) 16:32, 20 September 2009 (UTC)
- The unsourced ages should definitely have been removed, but I wouldn't have called their addition "libelous" by any stretch. We should be careful when accusing other editors of legal misdoings that are unsubstantiated. --ScreaminEagle (talk) 19:11, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

This article has to be the most frustating pages to maintain on all of Wikipedia
For some reason, this page is a target for (mostly) anons who just want to add their own original research and analysis. It often ends up in the removal of references and the general reduction in quality of the article. It's infuriating!! We can't have the page locked unless there's vandalism, but I believe that in this case it is a bigger problem. I call it Good Faith Damage. --Bill (talk|contribs) 02:05, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

Mr Krabs - crab or lobster?
Hi! Eugene H. Krabs is a cheap and selfish red crab. Where is it written that he is a crab? I mean, even if his name is "Krabs" he can be other than a crab... Watch him [1] watch a crab [2] and watch a lobster [3]. Can't he be a lobster? I think he looks like as much than a crab.--Felixggenest (talk) 08:14, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
- Why the devil would they call him Mr. Krabs if he's a lobster? You also know that they have a lobster on the show as well, right? An obvious one? His name is Larry the Lobster. Mystery solved. --ScreaminEagle (talk) 19:34, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

Hash Slinging Slasher
A imaginate character created by Squidward during a night shift with Spongebob at the Krusty Krab after Mr. Krabs opened the Krusty Krabs for 24 hours(except for Sundays). He comes to the Krusty Krab and it turns out he was just looking for a job as a frycook. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrs.puffandplankton (talk • contribs) 23:34, 16 January 2010 (UTC)
patrick is stupid and/so he lives under a rock
is this a coincidence? anyone know if this was intended? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.162.100.38 (talk) 03:03, 23 January 2010 (UTC)
- I assume you're referring to the phrase "living under a rock" as being equal with "stupid." However, suggesting someone's been "living under a rock" DOESN'T imply they're stupid, but rather just ignorant or uninformed. Patrick is stupid because he is a starfish. Starfish do not have brains. Thus, the "stupid" angle. And starfish tend to live on rocks, or in the case of the cartoon's need for a home for Patrick, under a rock. Voila. --ScreaminEagle (talk) 21:02, 26 January 2010 (UTC)
Maintaining this article is a huge pain
As Bill noted above me, maintaining this article is a giant pain in the butt. Anons and certain users add their own original research or vandalize entries. The main characters section takes the worst abuse. I do my part and try to keep that section at reasonable quality.
Would anyone like to try exercising some quality on the recurring character and minor character sections?

The "My leg" Fish
- In many episodes an accident will happen. At those moment a fish would say "My leg." usally a brown fish. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.192.254.158 (talk) 02:43, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
- Does the character have characteristics, or is he just a talking prop? That's what defines a character. -- Île flottɑnte~Floɑting islɑnd Talk 19:35, 28 February 2010 (UTC)
Spongebob's relatives
- Most of SpongeBob's relatives look different than him. I read they looked like sea sponges but, before reading it, they looked to me like cookies. Yoshi39 (talk) 13:57, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
- Also, I did not understand the Blackjack thing (he was the size of Spongebob's foot). Yoshi39 (talk) 13:57, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

Main character full names
Currently, the main characters have their full names displayed in the article. With the obvious exception of SpongeBob Squarepants himself, do you think that the other main characters full names should be reduced to their common names?
Plankton's first name Sheldon and Mr. Krabs' Eugene are rarely mentioned on the show, making it more in-universe than encyclopedic. JudgeSpear (talk) 18:01, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
- The current format of the more-used name as sub-section header and full name below is fine the way it is. Abductive (reasoning) 18:51, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
patrick and gary relation?
i think we should at least mention that gary and patrick are related. it is shown in the episode, rule of dumb. can someone put this in the article? Josephiav (talk) 15:59, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
- That was a brief display of a family tree, but the joke was that it was more like a phylogenetic tree. Small jokes like that are not worthwhile including in a Wikipedia article. If you read above, an editor wanted to get rid of the first names of some of the characters because they are not used much. Abductive (reasoning) 17:37, 12 June 2010 (UTC)
The Strangler
Should The Strangler be added under "Minor Characters"? He appeared in "Spongebob meets the Strangler", but that was the only time that he appeared. Also, does the character have to appear in more than one episode to be considered a minor character? http://www.tv.com/spongebob-squarepants/spongebob-meets-the-strangler--pranks-a-lot/episode/168715/summary.htmlBattleaxe9872 (talk) 18:43, 15 June 2010 (UTC)
