James Andrew Charles Ryan (born 8 February 1983 in Christchurch) is a New Zealand rugby union footballer. He plays lock.

He plays for the Highlanders in the Super 14 and for Otago in the National Provincial Championship.

Ryan was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, and attended Christs College wher he was a significant player in the schools First XV. He made his All Black debut age 22, versus Fiji in 2005. He has currently played in 7 tests.
