Tennis player?

I remember Matthew saying in an interview he was a pretty good Tennis player, and was nationally ranked at one point in Canada. Could anyone with solid fact/references on this add it in?

—The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.110.14.145 (talk) 20:15, 26 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Here's an interview with some information about his tennis playing past: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3GGSbwU9Ho Start at 16:30. He says as a junior (about 13 years old) he was nationally ranked #3 for doubles and 17th or 18th for singles. I'm too tired to write it up though.

Naming of article

Shouldn't this be Matthew Perry (actor) or something? I don't know about Matthew C. Perry, but no one ever calls the actor "Matthew L. Perry" (I didn't even know his middle name until I saw this). Adam Bishop 21:15, 15 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Dunno if there is a rule on this, but IMHO adding a "()" disambiguator is a last resort; middle initial is a better choice if available. Someone typing in "Matthew Perry" who doesn't know that it's ambiguous isn't going to be any more inclined to "Matthew Perry (actor)" than "Matthew L. Perry". Stan 16:32, 16 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Cleanup?

I think this article could be cleanup a little bit. Maybe separate it into difference subtitles? Gadig 21:57, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Is it just me or does the following sentence not make sense?

"They all sent Perry to the warehouse full of stolen cars where Perry and Deutch gets busted by the FBI for buying the car off the black market."

And why does this happen?

You have to watch it ;) Juryu 01:58, 2 February 2006 (UTC)Juryu[reply]

Infobox

Is the infobox really necessary? I'm not a fan of information being doubled up in articles and there is nothing in that infobox that isn't already in the article. --195.93.21.135 07:09, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If that was the case then every infobox in the whole wikipedia should be taken down. It's just a tradition, get used to it! Belueberry 02:31, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Picture

Surely a better picture can be found than the pixellated one we have now. Belueberry 02:31, 28 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I Agree

I just added one. Purplemonkey 935 02:42, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well now we have a partially blurred picture of a Ben Affleck lookalike, which is also flipped according to its talk page. And might it be better to use a non-smoking pic, unless he's particularly known for it (as far as I know, he isn't). Phyte 22:54, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Certainly better pictures are out there, especialy a cast photo from Friends or something? He was probably the funniest member of the cast and he's given this crummy, blurry, smoking picture of him all disheveled and stuff? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.30.123.115 (talk) 14:11, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Current picture is much better. Well done whoever that was :) Phyte 22:50, 15 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If I were him, I would sue Wikipedia for this photo! It's horrible 67.126.140.97 (talk) 10:51, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Guys, anyone seeing this photo would wonder if wikipedia writers hate Matthew Perry. That photo is horrible, it is really unfair to this actor.155.207.250.16 (talk) 10:47, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Could somebody either remove/change the picture. It's horrible according to the last point. How would an actor/actress feel having an awful picture of themselves on Wikipedia. They wouldn't like that at all. That is so cruel. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.172.221.66 (talk) 11:45, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I just deleted the photo because it is just disgraceful. I believe that until there is a suitable, just photo of Matthew Perry, we should leave the 'image box' empty. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.84.110.216 (talk) 06:06, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's not a bad picture - in fact I think he looks younger (and more trim) than he did in the last few seasons of Friends. He is known as a smoker - he's said it in a few interviews I've seen - and it certainly wouldn't shock any Friends fans since his character was often seen smoking. --Tuzapicabit (talk) 16:21, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I feel like there should at least be something of a picture. Please make it happen. (Joe)

Religion

On Studio 60, the character Harriet jokes about Matt Albie's character being Jewish ("East Coast liberal Jewish atheist"). What is the religious orientation of the real Matthew Perry?

Birthday

And the birthday is changed just when I am typing the previous message. Violetviovet 00:45, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hockey fan

Trivia sections are by definition unencyclopedic and effort must be made to incorporate entries from these sections into other sections of the article. I have now removed info about him being an Ottawa Senators fan from trivia three times - the first time by transplanting it to the personal life section and the second and third times by removing it because foolish people can't cast their eyes up one line and see it in an encyclopedic section. If anyone can give a reason for including content twice, please say so here. And do not use this as an opportunity to bawl and cry at me and say I need to register a user account so you won't think I'm a vandal. Do not use this as an opportunity to say that the tone I am taking will result in a banning. Just accept that trivia sections are unencyclopedic. End of story. 143.167.224.201 18:40, 24 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This is an ONLINE, USER-CREATED encyclopedia; it doesn't have to be eligible for a book format - if people like the way it is presented, don't screw around with it and complain when people change it back. Purplemonkey 935 02:41, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

can we please have a better photo of perry? that picture is really horrible.

Klinjon - "I have a much better photo of Matthew Perry, it's a close up promotional shot of his character from Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, but Wikipedia left me a message stating that I have to tag the image I have for licensing purposes, or something like that. Can anyone tell me how to do this so the picture that is currently displayed can be changed to the one I have? I agree that the current is horrible; Perry has been clean for a good 2 years now, and I could even go as far as saying that the person who uploaded the current image doesn't think particularly highly of him, which isn't fair on a wikipedia article as it is supposed to be unbiased."

Where's the proof Klinjon. As long as he is still smoking that picture should stay. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.111.103.193 (talk) 10:39, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Love interests?

Not that I'm sure of any, but are there any previous or currents wives and/or girlfriends to mention? 76.110.212.32 (talk) 07:57, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I remember having seen him often in the audience when Jennifer Capriati was playing...This was around 2004 (when I played tennis a lot myself; on the public court around the corner, though :-) Schomynv (talk) 09:52, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Matthew's finger

Should it be noted that he is missing part of his middle finger on his right hand? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.178.201.158 (talk) 03:37, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Weight gain/loss

The Personal section mentions that he lost a lot of weight in season 7 of Friends, but I seem to remember it as earlier than that - there's one (perhaps season 4?) where he appears quite deathly thin. Then later (perhaps season 8 or 9?) he's suddenly ballooned and his face looks very bloated. Someone more in the know would probably be able to certify which seasons exactly, but it was very noticeable (to the point of distraction while watching).--Tuzapicabit (talk) 16:25, 16 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This was due to his alcohol/drug addictions and subsequent rehab stints - there's nothing mentioned about it on this page, I think there should be. He's been very open about it since. Marthiemoo (talk) 10:07, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It was mentioned in the article Once Upon A Time, but deletionist nazis removed it. --Captain Infinity (talk) 10:26, 11 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with [[User:Marthiemoo|Marthiemoo] that making no reference to his changing appearance due to addictions is bizarre.Alistair Stevenson (talk) 00:10, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Photo

Is it me or does the cigarete he has in the picture look like its not real. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alzzo (talkcontribs) 17:53, 13 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Any relation to Commodore Perry?

They look an awful lot alike and Commodore Perry and there were Perry's of that family that married into Canadian families. Compare these photos and you'll see why i think there is a resemblance:

The Commodore: [1] The Actor: [2]

Anybody know? LiPollis (talk) 22:23, 1 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Personal Section

Why is there no personal section to this article? There is one for every other ex-'Friends' star. What's the deal? 92.9.232.39 (talk) 17:58, 15 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You're right, there was one a few days ago, now it's gone... what happened? Felipe-11 (talk) 04:30, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • The personal section was a mess, which is why it was removed. First, there were virtually no citations for any of the information, per the Wikipedia guideline WP:CITE. Second, it was full of trivial information that is irrelevant to an encyclopedia, like his fling with Julia Roberts or certain bands he likes; that is information better suited to fan websites than to Wikipedia (read WP:TRIVIA). The only sourced information was to his well-publicized battle with substances; since everything else in the 'personal' section was pointless, uncited information except for that, I moved it under the biography section. Please don't add trivial information, and if you can't find a mainstream newspaper or magazine talking about whatever it is you wish to include here, it should not go here because that means it is either 1) not true; or 2) unimportant (the policies and guidelines for this are WP:Verifiability and WP:Undue weight). -->David Shankbone 14:19, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Without a personal section of any sort this article feels dodgy, like it's been air-brushed, which is weird since in interviews Perry is pretty open.Alistair Stevenson (talk) 00:08, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
