Kot Momin is a town in Sargodha District, Punjab, Pakistan. On 21 June 2003 Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi announced it was to become a tehsil.[1]
Population and society
The major tribe of this area are the Rajpoots (RAO and Ranas)Gondal[MUGHAL(Kashmiri)]), Thaheem, Jats, and their sub-tribes such as the Gara (Bukhtawar Ali Gara), Shirana, Shahabul ka, Mumnaana(from Momin Khan) and others. The tehsil is also home to other Jat clans such as the Lak, Ranjha, Khoti, Mekan Jethal, Bhin, Ghugh and Jalap.
Immigrants from India settled in Kot Momin in 1947, after the partition of India. They belonged mostly to the Arain, Rajput, Hisar district, Chang, Nihar Pur, Niharsi, and Gujar clans. Other castes include the Sheikhs, Bhatti and Malik.
Politically strong families of Kotmoman city are the Gondal, Mughal, Rajput,tarar. Lak and Gujjars. Saghrana Family (Sub cast of Gondal) has ruled Kotmoman Town Committee for 8 years,Gara Family has ruled 7 years,Shabulka family has ruled 2 years(local bodies were demolished by Pervez Musharaf). A couple of politicians are distinguished by their continuous success in elections to local bodies, for example Mr.Ch.FAIZ AHMED GONDAL SHAHABAL KA AND ch IQBAL GARA ,,,(late) (One of the most stronger Political personality of city) & Mr.Haji Muhammad Muraad Gondal (late) has won 3 times continuously. Both are known as Mr. Clean.
Agriculture and economy
Kot Momin is well known for its production of Mondarian (citrus); for example, Kinoo. Currently, there are 100 factories of export operating. They are exporting Mondarian to different countries like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Korea, United Kingdom, Canada, Sri Lanka, Russia, and Iran. There are certain Kinoo model farms growing what is considered to be the best Kinoo with the help of Punjab Government.
Other main crops of Kot Moman are wheat, rice, sugar cane, various vegetables, and watermelon.
Kot Moman's main bazaar is the second longest bazaar in Asia after the Tench Bhata Rawalpindi, Pakistan.[citation needed] Politically strong families of Kotmoman city are the Gondal, tarar,Mughal, Rajput, Lak, Rajpoots,(Booth Rao and Rana) and Gujjars. Sahibzadah Abu Muhammad Zarif (Late)Ex-Principal Higher Secondary School, Sahibzadah Muhammad Lutfullah, Sahibzadah Muhammad Saad Ullah (Late), Sahibzadah Muhammad Amjad, Sahibzadah Muhammad Arshad, Rana mushtaq Ahmed,Rana Gulzar Ahmed, Rana Asghar Ali, Rana Taswer, Rana Sarwar Javaid, Rana Muhammad Naeem, Rana Sajid Mahmood, Rana Muhammad Rafique(Late), Dr. Tufail Ahmed Qureshi,Hafiz Ghulam Rasool and Ahmad Khan(furniture house), Mirza Jamil Ahmed (Late),Haji Khalil Ahmed,Sheikh Masood Elahi, Sheikh Akhtar Mahmood(Late)Ghulam Ali Lak (Mamoon), Haji Manzoor Gujar,Sufi Maqbool Hakeem (Late),Hakim Mian Muhammad Abdullah(Late), Dr sulatan Ali, Hakim Mian Saifullah, Allah Bakhash Tarar,haji muhammad nawaz tarar.Gulzar Ahmed Tarar,mukhtar ahmed tarar,saleem akhtar tarar.naeem ullah tarar . .Rana Muhammad Akbar, Rana Faisal Raza,Rana Waqas Hameed, Rana Jawad Hameed, Mian Shabir Ahmed(Late)Rana Saeed Ahmed(Late),sheikh sajid mehmood,sheikh sikandar hayat,sheikh masood sikandar,sheikh sher ahmad,sheikh akhtar hayat,sheikh saleem are well known personalities of Kot Moman.
Education
Kot Momin Has not well known education institutes, it has degree college for boys and girls but both are still waiting for starting of classes. Most of the brilliant student migrate to big city like Lahore, Sargodha or Islamabad to get valued education. In high school level study, Kot Momin has two famous schools Dar-ul-Huda model school and Dar-e-Arkam model school and both schools are trying to meet the standards of education. Both schools are under the management of current and past leadership of Jamaat-e-Islami (a well managed political org.) Kot momin. In 9th class examination 2009 Dar-ul-Huda’s student Rana Ali Raza got 1st position in all schools of the area by getting 94.15 % marks in board exams. this progress shows that the future of Kot momin is bright. Govt technical High School Kot Momin (Now Higher Secondary School) has been an educational hub in the area. people graduated from this institute are working in high profiled scientific and technical research organisations and institutions in the world and specially in country. the land and brain of this soil is very fartile. If education level of this area is increased by the establishment of new latest equipped technical institutions in the Tehsil. the people of this town can prove their talent in field of engineering as well as agriculture. But lake of education and exposiour these hi-fi brains are being wasted like naveed azam.
