Lake Opinicon is located on the Rideau Canal in Ontario Canada. This shallow lake was formed when Colonel By built the Rideau Canal. It is a popular fishing spot and location for cottagers. Chaffey's Lock and Davis Lock are the 2 locks on this passage. Davis Lock separates Lake Opinicon from Sand Lake while Chaffey's Lock borders with Indian Lake. Chaffey's Lock is also home to a tourist and cottage community. It was named after Samuel and Benjamin Chaffey, two brothers who established several mills in the area in 1820. The Opinicon Hotel, a historical resort, is located in the town of Chaffey's Lock. Brown's Marina, once owned by Jim Alford (RIP), is a popular starting point for boating expeditions. The [Queen's University Biological Station], built in 1945, also shares the Lake. In May 2010, Sugarbush Island was designated a conservation area.
