How many Scheduled Ancient Monuments are there? It would be nice to have a list of all of them on Wikipedia. dbenbenn | talk 05:04, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have been searching for online lists of the Scheduled Ancient Monuments in order to populate the categories here and at the commons. The English Heritage website seems to be fairly useless, but putting Scheduled Ancient Monument into the advanced search at Images of England gives 1011 results. Historic Scotland are better as they have a searchable database of Scheduled Ancient Monuments, of which they claim there are about 8000 in Scotland. The Royal Commision on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Wales has an online database called coflein—I haven't spent much time with this yet, but I couldn't work out whether or not everything in the database is a Scheduled Ancient Monument (I think not, but it doesn't say).
