Sonic Colors (ソニック カラーズ, Sonikku Karāzu),[4][5] officially entitled Sonic Colours outside of Japan and the United States,[2] is an upcoming game for the Wii and Nintendo DS. It was first announced on May 26, 2010 in a press release by Sega for Italy, and included a teaser trailer. It will be released on the Wii and DS on December 7 2010.

Gameplay

In Sonic Colors, players will use the power of the colored energy obtained from Wisps in order to traverse the environments. There will be six kinds in the game according to SEGA. Revealed so far are three of them. There is the standard White Wisps that give Sonic extra boost, Cyan Wisps that turn Sonic into a laser which can bounce off surfaces and travel through power lines, and Yellow Wisps that allow Sonic to dig into dirt surfaces to reach hidden areas.[1][6] There is also a double jump move seen in the Wii version that's not a standard double jump, but rather gives a small amount of extra height to reach a platform's edge.

The Wii version of Sonic Colors will use a mixture of 2D and 3D perspectives, akin to Sonic Unleashed's day stages, while the Nintendo DS version will take advantage of the dual screens of the handheld, similar to the Sonic Rush series.[1] There are also Wisps exclusive to the Wii and DS version, such as a Red Wisp that turns Sonic into a living fireball. The Red Wisp was the only one revealed in the DS version so far. [7]

Plot

Sonic Colors takes place on a planet that has been seen orbiting Sonic the Hedgehog's world, inhabited by an alien race called "wisps" that use a special colored energy. With the race under threat from Doctor Eggman, who is using a tractor beam to unite several different planets into one giant amusement park, Sonic and Tails arrive on the planet and harness the power of the colors to put an end to Eggman's plans.[1]

The Wii and DS versions will have slightly different stories to each other.
