Turnpike Lane, looking south-east towards Ducketts Common

Turnpike Lane is the name of a street in Haringey, north London.

The road is characterised by independent retailers with flats above their shops. It is also a local transport hub, with Turnpike Lane tube station and a major bus station situated off the eastern end of the street.

Description

Turnpike Lane forms part of the A504 route, running roughly east-west for less than one kilometre.

A small park named Ducketts Common is situated near the eastern end of the road, opposite the Underground and bus stations. It was once an area of common land where people had the right to graze their animals; it now has a pleasant green and seating facilities and comfortable Victorian houses on two sides.

By day, Turnpike Lane is a busy cosmopolitan shopping street and an important thoroughfare for car traffic. Speciality shops remain open until late at night. By evening there are some restaurants, including Malaysian, Greek, Indian, Kurdish, Turkish, Chinese, Thai, Lebanese, and continental as well as smaller cafés catering to all budgets.
