Usage

The {{TrainsWikiProject}} project banner template should be added (not subst:ed) to the talk page of every article within the scope of the project. While the template does not require any additional parameters, it has a number of optional ones that add various extra features to the banner. The full syntax is as follows:

It is important that the capitalisation shown above be used. For example, using |Streetcars=yes by mistake for |streetcars=yes will fail to place the article within WikiProject Streetcars; similarly, using |underground=yes instead of |Underground=yes will not add the article to WikiProject London Transport.

Template display formatting parameters:

  • small - show the normal or reduced size template; shows the reduced size template if small=yes.

  • class – a rating of the article's quality; see Wikipedia:WikiProject Trains/Assessment for more details. Valid values are (case insensitive):
    • FA - The article has reached Featured article status.
    • A - Could be submitted as a Featured article candidate; probably could use some small updates to make it Featured quality.
    • GA - The article has reached Good article status.
    • B - Could be submitted as a Good article nominee; probably could use some updates or may lack some features from the Good article criteria, but it presents a good overview of the subject.
    • C - The most important topics in an article are addressed, but there are still gaps in the coverage or tasks needed.
    • Start - The article is more than a stub, but may lack some important aspects of the topic's discussion.
    • Stub - The article is a stub; it likely contains one of the rail transport stub templates.
    • FL - The page is a Featured list
    • List - The page is a list
    • NA - The page is not an article and should not be rated; it could be a template, image or category, for example.
    • Portal - The page is part of a portal; adds pages to Category:Trains portal task force articles and displays the Portal task force link.
    • Disambig or Dab - The article is a disambiguation page.
    • Redirect or Redir - The article is a redirect page.
    • Template or Tpl - The page is a template.
    • Category or Cat - The page is a category.
    • Image or Img - The page is an image.

  • importance - a rating of the article's importance within the Trains WikiProject. Valid values are (case insensitive):
    • Top

Portal appearance parameters:

  • portaldykdate - the date when a fact from the associated article appeared in the "Did you know" section of Portal:Trains.
  • portalSAweek - the week number and year when the article appeared in the "Selected article" section; adds articles to Category:Trains portal selected articles
  • portalSIweek - the week number and year when the image appeared in the "Selected picture" section

To avoid needlessly cluttering up talk pages, it is usually appropriate to remove any unused parameters from the template.
