The tenth season of American Idol is scheduled to premiere on January 12, 2011 on Fox. This will be the first season for which teenagers aged 15 may audition.[1] This will be the first season without Simon Cowell as a judge, leaving Randy Jackson as the only original judge. It was announced on July 29, 2010 that Ellen DeGeneres will not be returning to the show,[2] while it had been reported yet still officially unconfirmed on July 30, 2010 that Kara DioGuardi was let go.[3] It is expected that the show will be going back to a three judge format and assuming all deals are finalized, the judges panel will consist of Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, and Steven Tyler.[4] Nigel Lythgoe is also expected to return as the show's executive producer.[5]

Regional auditions

This is the first season to lower the age limit down to 15 years old, though the upper age limit is not scheduled to change, which still remains at 28 years old.[6]
