Deletion review for Standard Resources Fund

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Standard Resources Fund. Because you closed the deletion discussion for this page, speedily deleted it, or otherwise were interested in the page, you might want to participate in the deletion review. There is no copyright infringement of Standard Resources Fund and Standard Capital Group as they are legally the same entity. Yesterday an administrator merged the two names. Please review the history to verify.

InkHeart again?

Hey. Due to Special:Contributions/Jenaveev18's recent actions, I suspect that she may be InkHeart. I can't be certain, so is there a way for you to do the checkuser to verify? Thanks. Ωphois 19:22, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Jenaveev18 has been blocked as a sock puppet. Cheers, FASTILY (TALK) 09:49, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of NX (Software) Page

I would like to help get the NX Software page in shape so that it meets all of the notability requirements and avoids the advertising issues for which it was deleted. To be clear (as it says on my user page) I am employed by Siemens so I am not going to recreate the page directly. I see two possible paths to get a better page created:

  • create one in my userspace and then get someone (who?) to look at it and create the page from it
  • contact the users who felt the page was valuable when it was being considered for deletion and see if they are interested in starting a new page (if this is preferred can you provide me with their user pages so I can contact them as I can't seem to get to the discussion page for deletion anymore).

Can you advise on which approach is preferred or if there is another that I didn't consider? Thanks in advance. Aakelley (talk) 18:40, 29 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Consider WP:AFC. There are plenty of editors there who will be happy to help you get an article off the ground. -FASTILY (TALK) 09:51, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Image

Why did you delete File:ZintaonMainPage.JPG? I can't see it available on Commons. Please restore it, this image was uploaded by a friend for me. ShahidTalk2me 16:19, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Your assistance please

The record shows you deleted File:AlNaimis father and brother and Joshua Congolese lawyer.jpg -- for lacking a fair use rationale.

I request access to the supporting information provided by the uploader, including the image's URL. I suspect that drafting a compliant fair use rationale will be possible, and I would like to try to do so.

Thanks Geo Swan (talk) 00:14, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The "what links here" doesn't provide any links to a discussion of the deletion of this image. Are you aware of one? If so I would appreciate being told where to find it. Thanks Geo Swan (talk) 00:19, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Fastily has not been active lately. Here is the copyright info from the deleted file:
{{di-no fair use rationale}}
{{Non-free fair use in|Abdulla Majid Al Naimi}}
Source: Guantánamo: Pictures from Home. Questions of Justice art exhibit
Rationale: Low-resolution, non-commercial photograph which represents no financial loss to photographer, non-reproducible photograph
The picture was uploaded by User:Sherurcij on 22 January, 2009. Speedy deleted by Fastily on 15 May 2010 per "F6: Non-free media file with no non-free use rationale". I did not see a URL. You may be aware of the art exhibit 'Guantánamo: Pictures from Home.' EdJohnston (talk) 00:43, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the update.
The caption to where the image was used had a reference to this page.
IMO the Guantanamo captives' habeas attorneys had problems earning the trust of their clients. Unscrupulous interrogation teams would send new interrogators to some captives, who pretended they were their attorneys. So lawyers having their picture taken with the captives' families is, I believe, an important phenomenon, and this is the only published instance of this important phenomenon. If I had uploaded this image I would have stated this in the rationale.
Do you think I should take this to DRV?
FWIW, Sherurcij got the lawyer's name wrong. Initially I thought a vandal had changed the name referenced for the pic, so that the actual image got deleted because it wasn't being used. The lawyer's actual name is Joshua Colangelo-Byran. Geo Swan (talk) 03:21, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

VladoD deleted

Fastily, looks like you deleted my account VladoD. That's not cool. I have an account Vlado, that I am unable to use because I forgot my password and Wikipedia staffers will not reset it for me. So, I had to create a new account. In my new profile description I described this. Here are articles I wrote for wikipedia as far back as http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Vlado%7Carticles.

Please restore my account VladoD. If you have an issue with something with something specific, please let me know and I would be glad to address it. Alternatively, help me restore password access to my account Vlado.

I've known Jimmy Wales since 2003 and supported the wikipedia project since throughout the early days. My articles were among the first to spawn wikipedia.hr.

I am a real person: http://www.linkedin.com/in/vladod and saddened by this experience. —Preceding unsigned comment added by VladoD (talkcontribs) 11:33, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've restored User:VladoD. It makes more sense now that you've provided an explanation. Sorry for the inconvenience. -FASTILY (TALK) 11:40, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Kimberly High School

Hello. You deleted Kimberly High School (G6 Housekeeping and routine (non-controversial) cleanup). But this page Kimberly_High_School_(disambiguation) redirect to Kimberly High School, and it looks like that Kimberly High School used to be a disambiguation page? If this is not the case, Kimberly_High_School_(disambiguation) should be deleted too. -- Christian75 (talk) 12:47, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted now. Thanks for letting me know. Regards, FASTILY (TALK) 18:28, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for checking in. JHunterJ was kind enough to ask if I wanted to be nominated and - after reading more about it - I decided to wait until I had more main article page contributions. Feel free to delete at your leisure. --John (User:Jwy/talk) 15:06, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Alright then. Thank you for being upfront about it. Regards, FASTILY (TALK) 18:28, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hiya. Just out of interest, how did you come to the conclusion that the result of the discussion at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files/2010 July 21#File:Kentlogo.png was to delete? Best, Matthewedwards :  Chat  15:30, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You yourself noted that the file "might be free" at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files/2010 July 21#File:Kentlogo.png. The purpose of WP:PUF is to investigate files with questionable copyright status. Unless you have cold, hard evidence indicating that the file is indeed free, it cannot stay on Wikipedia under a free license, hence the Delete close to the discussion. At any rate, if you can prove the file is free, I'll restore it for you. -FASTILY (TALK) 18:32, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of University of Nevada Cooperative Extension

You recently deleted University of Nevada Cooperative Extension and I wish to have it reviewed or request further explanation. To make my case, University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is a college under the University of Nevada, Reno, of which an article already exists - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Nevada,_Reno. Within that article you will find a reference to "Cooperative Extension Service." The Cooperative Extension Service that is referenced is known as University of Nevada Cooperative Extension. Furthermore, cooperative extension service "is a non-formal educational program implemented in the United States" - which, again, there is a Wikipedia article for cooperative extension service - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cooperative_extension and you will see that University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is listed on that page. And finally, there is an entry for Alabama Cooperative Extension System - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alabama_Cooperative_Extension_System - which contains extensive information on what they do. The entry that was posted for University of Nevada Cooperative Extension should stay as it is something that would be found in an encyclopedia and there is nothing more than factual information that was written from a neutral point of view. University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is an educational institution and is the educational outreach arm of the University of Nevada, Reno and it has nothing to sell or promote (does not grant degrees or have enrollment of students). Also, all references cited an educational institution website (.edu). In fact in terms of Wikipedia's own guidelines - "Academic and peer-reviewed publications are usually the most reliable sources where available ...Electronic media may also be used, subject to the same criteria." University of Nevada Cooperative Extension only conducts peer-reviewed research.

Kentlogo.png

I'm wondering why this was deleted. First, no discussion was ever given to its status after the initial question and then the explanation by the editor who moved it to Trademarked but not copyrighted status. I had originally uploaded it as a copyrighted logo complete with a rationale and during the recent laborious Kent, Ohio FAC process there was question about the purpose of the seal in the article (citing WP:NFCC) and in response another editor believed it wasn't copyrighted at all for the reasons specified and thus NFCC wasn't an issue. Seems a bit rushed to delete it after all of two comments and not even looking at its edit history to see that it was previously listed as a copyrighted logo with a valid rationale. --JonRidinger (talk) 18:04, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm. I see it now. I'll restore it as such. -FASTILY (TALK) 18:36, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Editing and respecting COI: Need your advice

Dear Fastily, I am new to Wikipedia, and could use help understanding how to edit correctly. I came here at the behest of a journalist at Engineering News Record, who suggested that I should correct and amend inaccurate information on Gensler and Shanghai Tower as listed in Wikipedia articles. I am doing my best to do just that, but am experiencing problems. Images I post, for which I have full copyright, are gettting removed. These images are indeed used widely on the web, but I own them.

Secondly, edits I make to Gensler, or to Shanghai Tower, are deleted. I do work for the company that is the subject of the articles. I am attempting to correct inaccurate information (including removing images that we own, but have not released or given permission to use), add images to augment points made by previous authors, and add citations to support the correct information.

Yet all my text changes are erased and images, citations, and factual corrections are reverted by other editors. What can I do to improve the accuracy of the article, yet keep from violating any conflict of interest? My intent is to make the information on Wikipedia more correct. For example, in the "Gensler" article, the founders of the company are incorrect. The correct names of our company's founders are "Arthur Gensler, Drue Gensler and James R. Follett." There was no Jimmy Williams when we opened our doors. Additionally, the list of locations in the article is incorrect. These are two examples; there are others I attempted to correct, and when I did so, I cited sources. What should I do differently?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Best wishes, GenslerOnCities (talk) 18:49, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please see WP:DCP for information on donating copyrighted materials and WP:ADS for our policy on how advertising/spam is dealt with. I hate to tell you this, but it would seem like you have a textbook example of a conflict of interest here. Bear in mind that if you continue editing articles where you have a conflict of interest, you run the risk of being blocked from editing and having your edits reverted. Block

What was the reason for blocking Danilo Hegg (talk · contribs) indefinitely for vandalism? Now, sure, their edits are somewhat self-promotional, but no-one bothered to explain that to them. I just don't see why blocking them for repeated vandalism is right, when clearly, what they were doing was not vandalism. Please explain. Steven Zhang The clock is ticking.... 22:08, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Danilo Hegg was reported to WP:AIV by User:Odie5533. I blocked Danilo Hegg on the basis that their edits were vandalism/advertising. Now although we differ as to what constitutes vandalism, if you can reach an understanding with the user, I will be more than happy to unblock. -FASTILY (TALK) 22:13, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I saw that he was reported to AIV. I watch AIV a lot, seeing as I constructed a lot of what you seem to use a lot, {{aiv}}. I was questioning your rationale for the block in the first place. Didn't you check the talk page to see whether they were told why their edits were being reverted, as opposed to just having their edits called 'vandalism'.
