George William Thomson Omond

G. W. T. Omond M.A., FRHistS, (1846-1929) was an advocate and a prolific writer of history books. He was born at Craigentor, Perthshire on 13th September 1846. His father was the Rev. John Reid Omond, Minister of the Free Church of Scotland at the parish of Monzie, Perthshire, and his mother Margaret Jane Thomson. He was educated at Edinburgh Academy and the University of Edinburgh where he graduated in 1868 with first class honours in classics and second class in philosophy. He married Margaret Isabella Alice Wright on 23rd July 1878 at Edinburgh, and they had one son and three daughters. He died on 18th June 1929.

  • 1885 – Appointed Advocate-Depute
  • 1886 – Contested West Perthshire constituency in the general election of 1886.
