Scott Ginsburg
Scott Ginsburg (born October 6, 1952) is the Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer [1][2] of DG FastChannel (NASDAQ: DGIT),[3] serving on its board of directors since 1998.
He is also the owner of Boardwalk Auto Group.[4]
Career history
U.S. Congress
From 1971 until 1981, Mr. Ginsburg worked in the U.S. Congress while attending college and law school. He worked for two Iowa Congressmen: U.S. Congressman John C. Culver and U.S. Senator Dick Clark. From 1975 until 1981, Mr. Ginsburg worked in a professional capacity of Staff Director and later as Staff Director and General Counsel of the U.S. Senate Labor’s Subcommittee on Employment, Poverty and Migratory Labor. He also worked for the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Social Security and Medicare. U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin chaired both of these Subcommittees. In 1981, Mr. Ginsburg left his employment with the U.S. Congress and began a career in private industry.
Radio days
From 1981 until 1983, Mr. Ginsburg formulated a business plan to enter the radio broadcasting industry. In 1983, Mr. Ginsburg acquired his first radio station and founded Statewide Broadcasting. From 1983 until 1987, this station group expanded from AM and FM radio stations in three Florida cities to include large markets such as Dallas and Chicago. In 1987, Mr. Ginsburg and Cecil Heftel formed H & G Communications, and added Los Angeles, Chicago and Honolulu radio stations in the group. In 1988, Mr. Ginsburg established Evergreen Media Corporation, which focused on the nation’s largest media markets. Mr. Ginsburg took the company public in 1993.[5]
In 1997, Mr. Ginsburg co-founded Chancellor Media Corporation (NYSE: AFM) [6], with Tom Hicks of Hicks, Muse, Tate and Furst. Chancellor Broadcasting merged with Evergreen Media Corporation. Mr. Ginsburg served as Chancellor’s Chief Executive Officer and a Director. From 1987 until 1998, the radio group headed by Mr. Ginsburg moved from the 25th ranked radio group, as measured by Miller Kaplan revenue reports, to become the top billing radio group in the United States.
SEC Violations
On March 19, 2004, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit reinstated a jury verdict against Dallas businessman Scott K. Ginsburg for insider trading in violation of the federal securities laws. The Court of Appeals also reinstated a $1 million civil penalty and ordered the district court to impose a permanent injunction from future violations (http://www.sec.gov/litigation/litreleases/lr18632.htm).
Prior to the trial of Scott Ginsburg in this case, on March 30, 2002, Mark Ginsburg and Jordan Ginsburg had settled the SEC's insider trading charges against them, without admitting or denying the SEC's allegations, by consenting to the entry of final judgments that included permanent injunctions, disgorgement, prejudgment interest and civil money penalties totaling over $4.7 million.
Auto dealer
Starting with a single Porsche dealership located in Dallas, Texas in 1998, Mr. Ginsburg founded the Boardwalk Auto Group. Between 1998 and 2005, he added Audi, Volkswagen, Ferrari, Maserati and Lamborghini to the Dallas dealership group.
Boardwalk Auto Group was named the “Number 1 Fastest Growing Privately-Held Company” in Dallas-Ft. Worth by Southern Methodist University’s Cox School of Business and Dallas Business Journal.[7] Mr. Ginsburg recently acquired a Ferrari/Maserati dealership in San Francisco, CA.
Philanthropic history
Mr. Ginsburg is involved in Dallas arts community, serving as a board member or past board member of the Dallas Symphony, the Dallas Arboretum and the Greenhill and Shelton private schools. He served as a member of the Honorary Board of Directors of AFI Dallas.
He helped found and served a term as Chairman of IPC, a worldwide organization of health professionals dedicated to the treatment and cure of psoriasis. He is a member of the Georgetown Law School’s Board of Visitors.
Mr. Ginsburg and his family have supported numerous charitable causes over the past 20 years including: Georgetown Law School, the Greenhill School, Shelton School, the Dallas Arboretum, the Dallas Symphony,] the [Dallas Center for the Performing Arts]], the AFI Dallas, as well as many other charitable organizations throughout the Dallas community.[8][9]
Education
Mr. Ginsburg earned his Bachelor’s degree from George Washington University, and his Juris Doctorate degree from Georgetown University Law Center. [10] He lives in Dallas with his wife and two sons. He also has two adult children.
