No Gravity is the second studio album by Barbadian R&B singer Shontelle. It is scheduled for release on September 21, 2010.[5] The album was recorded from August 2009 to August 2010. It has been preceded by the lead single "Impossible", which was released on February 9, 2010. "Impossible" has reached number thirteen on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Shontelle's most successful single to date in the US. A second single, "Perfect Nightmare", will be released on August 24, 2010.
Background
Shontelle stated in July 2009 that she had a desire to collaborate with Kanye West, Justin Timberlake and Alicia Keys. Then in August 2009, Shontelle announced that she had begun work on her second album and was aiming to work with many producers and artists, like Sean Garrett and Mr Hudson.
Shontelle also stated that the album would be experimental and rock-influenced.[2] Shontelle later described her new sound as "similar to Katy Perry's" as it'll be rock and dance-influenced. The album was due to be released in March 2010 but it was delayed to the middle of 2010 so that Shontelle could prepare more collaborations. In December 2009, she announced the album's title as Licky, and stated that it was near completion. She later retracted these statements in February 2010, stating that the album's title would be No Gravity and that it would be released in the summer 2010. Then, in April 2010, she announced the album's completion.[citation needed]
Collaborations
Shontelle collaborated with Mr Hudson on "The DJ Made Me Do It" (previously titled "Do It"), which he co-wrote. She also stated that she wanted to collaborate with David Archuleta. She has since stated that she collaborated with The-Dream and Sean Kingston. The album was delayed from its original August 24 release date to September 21 in order for Shontelle to collaborate with Darkchild.[6]
Promotion
Shontelle has begun promoting the album with live performances and promotion on her website, ShontelleMusic.[7] A viral three-part series, Uncovered, began on June 22, 2010, and follows Shontelle in promotion for No Gravity.[8] Via her Facebook account, Shontelle released five songs from No Gravity.[9] She will also be Kevin Rudolf's opening act on his upcoming To The Sky Tour.[citation needed]
Singles
- "Impossible" was released as the lead single from the album on February 9, 2010.[10] It was originally released on February 9, 2010, for digital download, but failed to garner success until May of 2010.[11] The single has reached number thirteen on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Shontelle's most successful single to date. It is being released in the United Kingdom, by digital download, on August 23, 2010. A music video was filmed for the single and released in March 2010.[12]
- "Perfect Nightmare" will be sent to U.S radio on August 31, 2010 as the album's second single.[13] Originally, "No Gravity" and "Say Hello to Goodbye" were tipped to be the album's second single but both possible releases were scrapped in favor of the new, Darkchild-produced song.
- "Licky (Under the Covers)" will be released as the third UK single from the album on November 7, 2010.[14] The single was released by digital download on November 17, 2009, and a video, directed by Ray Kay, was released in January of 2010.[15] It was going to be released on January 26, 2010, as the lead single from the album, but its release was postponed for "Impossible" to be released as the lead single from the album.[15] It will now be released in the UK as the second single there on November 7, 2010.[16]
