Hey Monday

Hey Monday is an American four-piece (originally a five-piece) pop rock band from West Palm Beach, Florida, formed in 2008.
History
Hey Monday was formed in March of 2008 after Cassadee Pope and Mike Gentile's former band Blake broke up. Pope and Gentile wanted to continue playing music and began holding auditions for a new band around their local Florida music scene. Pope and Gentile quickly recruited rhythm guitarist Alex Lipshaw and drummer Elliot James. Soon afterward they enlisted bassist Michael "Jersey" Moriarty and Hey Monday was formed. They were discovered when Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz heard one of their demos while he was in the Crush Management office. Wentz wanted to sign them to his label, Decaydance, but Columbia Records was also interested so the band ended up signing a joint deal with both labels. They recorded their debut album, Hold On Tight, throughout the Summer of 2008 and it released later that Fall on October 7. Soon after their debut album dropped, Hey Monday began touring with the likes of The Academy Is..., We The Kings, NeverShoutNever, The Cab, This Providence, A Rocket To The Moon, and Cash Cash. That following year they supported Fall Out Boy on both their major U.S. and international tours. Their popularity grew and the band went on their first headlining tour with This Providence, The Friday Night Boys, Stereo Skyline, and The Bigger Lights as support. They also headlined a few dates in Europe. In the fall of 2009 they supported All Time Low on the Glamour Kills Tour.
Departure of Elliot James
On October 9, the band announced that Elliot James had parted ways with Hey Monday. He is still playing drums for the band Easton. Patrick McKenzie, an old friend of Hey Monday, has since then replaced Elliot but has not become a permanent band member.
Message from Elliot:
I cannot begin to thank everyone enough. You have all moved me in innumerable ways during the past year. Playing music, for every single one of us, has been a passion all of our lives; it's what brought us together and made us friends in the first place. It's been a hard decision but I have decided to part ways with Hey Monday.
I have no doubt in my mind that Hey Monday will go on to conquer amazing heights and continue to pursue their dreams, like I am doing with mine. It has, by no means, been easy to walk away from them... but all the endless support I've had from them, and everyone we work with, has allowed me to do so with my head high. My future plans, as well as Hey Monday's, will begin to take hold in the next coming months. Finally, please keep your eyes on heymondaymusic.com and iamelliotjames.com to keep up with the band as well as what my future holds!
Graciously,
-EL
