Wikipedia:Requests for page protection
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
---|---|---|
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

2010–11 UEFA Champions League (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Following on from the request for the Europa League article to be protected, this does too: IP is showing intent to continue vandalising this page by reverting to a version before any matches took place. Has also announced he will keep changing IPs to continue doing so on [1]. AllynJ (talk | contribs) 16:15, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection, There are rumours that the team are about to sign a new player. The page has been prematurely updated all-day-long buy various IP address. All of which has to be reverted by other users who could be investing their time more productively. — Fly by Night (talk) 15:21, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
- Declined – Pages are not protected preemptively. Article is pending changes protected and I note that there are a few anon editors whose edits have been accepted. Presumably, this will be resolved one way or another soon but rereport if this continues beyond a couple of days more. --RegentsPark (talk) 15:27, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Article seems to be getting a number of IP edits adding unsourced info the the article. Article is currently high profile due to 2010 elections. Happysailor (Talk) 13:42, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for 3 days. Patar knight - chat/contributions 13:48, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
Full protect from all IPs. Repeated consistent vandalism by persistent dynamic IP range as soon as the old protection ends. Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 12:16, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. · Andonic Talk 13:33, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
Potentially the youngest member of parliament in the Australian election (on right now). And the most tweeted the person in the world atm. But his page is extremely vandalised. Need protection. Dengero (talk) 11:15, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
- I request urgent protection for this page. He looks like he's going to be elected and it's difficult to sort the vandalism from the constructive edits. - Richard Cavell (talk) 11:20, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of 1 month, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Done by PeterSymonds. Thanks. - Richard Cavell (talk) 11:24, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
Current requests for unprotection
Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
I wanted to edit this article, but it has been locked since last year for an unusually long time? 96.45.189.204 (talk) 16:21, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
Can someone unlock this? The admin who protected it looks to be busy IRL. Ciao. Clamshell Deathtrap (talk) 05:39, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
- Unprotected, spamming shouldn't still be a problem, it's been almost six months. · Andonic Talk 13:32, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
Current requests for edits to a protected page
Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

Temporary semi protection. Repeatedly being vandalized by socks of a perma-banned user. Every time one sock pops up and is blocked, another one shows up. Everard Proudfoot (talk) 05:31, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
- Already protected. by me (for a week, I think). AlexiusHoratius 05:57, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection, Discovered this one during some RCP. Currently involved as a major party in the Laura_Schlessinger#Use_of_racial_epithets case, so high visibility target presently for vandalism. Also, there is a present edit dispute between an IP editor (who has already violated 3RR) and other users. As an involved party with regards to current events, I request temporary semi page protection be put in place. As an outside party observing an edit war in process, well, that's a matter for WP:DR. - Declined for now - many if not most of the IP additions look constructive, if another admin wants to protect they can feel free to, but I'm going to hold off on it for now. Re-list if situation worsens. AlexiusHoratius 05:56, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

Indefinite semi-protection vandalism, I'm requesting the restoration of indef protection because pending changes is clearly not working. --75.47.152.72 (talk) 21:50, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
- Note: It appears that the prior indefinite semi-protection implemented back on 15 November 2008 by SoWhy (talk · contribs) was intended to protect the page while it was a redirect. I do not think it was intended to extend to the full article once it developed. Most of the recent IP activity appears to be good-faith edits, with little vandalism. Even though most of the IP edits were reverted - some for policy, some as discretionary reverts - I do not think this is grounds for long term semi-protection. Being a high interest article which will continue to develop in coming months as new sources become available, I believe it is best to leave this in an anyone can edit mode. Pending changes can continue to serve as a vandalism filter, and other editors can handle other content issues.
- I am leaving this request open for further discussion and action in case others disagree. -- Tom N (tcncv) talk/contrib 00:02, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
- Declined for now, per what Tom N said, basically. AlexiusHoratius 05:59, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
