Venezuela
Can someone plz explain to me why are Venezuelan women winning so many times? Does it mean that Venezuelan women are the most beautiful? If not, then what is the actual rational scientific reason? Bribery? Bias? What is it?... --KpoT 21:22, 22 August 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mizanthrop (talk • contribs)
- The competition is rather silly and of course controversial. There are trends that seem to appear; for example new competing nations always seem to make it into the top 10 (they even expanded it the year Kazakhstan first entered to include them), Miss USA makes it into the top 10 to keep viewers, etc. It's political, and there is certainly a bias in favor of Latinas, most of which are light-skinned and easily able to pass as white. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Puchiwonga (talk • contribs) 07:20, 7 February 2010 (UTC)
Fixed
This Miss Universe Pageant is a farce. Miss USA seems to always make it to the Final 15. even when she's clearly not in the same league as the other contestants. It's a big farce. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mcmlxxviii (talk • contribs) 01:38, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
The songs that is used in Ms. Universe 09

Miss World? Miss Earth???
Miss Universe is easily the most widely publicized of the international beauty competitions, but the lede puts it on the same level as Miss World and even Miss Earth(!). I suggest both of these be removed. Kauffner (talk) 16:26, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
- The reference you cited did not directly quote the revision you made. The original statement that you revised was well-referenced, which states: "Along with its rival contests , Miss World and Miss Earth, this pageant is one of the most publicized beauty contests in the world."

- Do you actually believe that Miss Earth is a pageant in the same league as Miss Universe, or are you just Wikilawyering? If you do believe this, I suggest you google "Miss Universe" and "Miss Earth" and compare the result numbers. There are five times more hits for Miss Universe and most of the hits for Miss Earth relate to the Philippines. The point of Wiki is to provide useful information to the reader, not put an article together according to some lobotomized set of rules. Even by your own argument, there is no basis to prefer Daijiworld.com over Slate. The Slate article states that Miss Universe is "far more successful" than Miss World.[1] We can use this exact wording, if that is what is bothering you. From the way Slate describes Miss Earth in the last paragraph, this pageant is obviously not as prestigious as either of the other two. Kauffner (talk) 12:29, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
- The Slate article from 2003, two years after the beginning of Miss Earth, is a bit outdated. It's also not a news medium but an opinion forum that is U.S. based, and arguably U.S. biased, something we need to be careful to avoid. Fat&Happy (talk) 15:52, 21 August 2010 (UTC)
If the rankings changed between 2003 and 2007, that would be a dramatic and newsworthy event that no one seems to have covered. Slate is used as a source all over Wiki and no one else complains. The current lede implies that "Miss World" is at least the No. 2 pageant and "Miss Earth" is at least No. 3, but in fact both pageants are outranked not only by "Miss Universe", but also by "Miss USA" and "Miss America". Miss Universe supposedly has 600 million viewers,[2] compared to 300 million for Miss USA,[3] 100 million for Miss World,[4] and 70 million for Miss Earth.[5] Kauffner (talk) 05:37, 22 August 2010 (UTC)
Criticisms
I came to this page so I could know the kind of criticisms there are regarding this competition. I guess there are some.
