Lawrence Franks, Jr. (born September 12, 1988), better known by his stage name Huey is an American rapper from St. Louis, Missouri.[1][2] He is currently signed to Jive Records. "Pop, Lock & Drop It" is his debut single from the album Notebook Paper.
Biography
Huey has been making music since his baby years.[3] He was introduced to music veteran Angela Richardson by his brother, and when Richardson set up a new rap group, Huey featured prominently, with songs such as "Pop, Lock & Drop It", becoming local favorites among DJs and promoters.[3] Huey was featured on a series of mixtapes, one of which, Unsigned Hype, sold out of its run of 8,000 copies and was noticed by producer TJ Chapman, who introduced the rapper to Vice President of A&R at Jive Records, Mickey "MeMpHiTz" Wright, in 2006.[3]
Notebook Paper (2006-2007)
Huey's debut album for the label, Notebook Paper, was released in mid-2007, described by Allmusic as sounding like a mixture of Nelly, Chingy, and Ludacris.[3][4] The album reached number 26 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling 10,000 copies in its first week of release.[5] Nelly's refusal to work with Huey on his debut album prompted 2 diss tracks "Down, Down, Baby" featuring Tha Camp Boyz and "Back at Cha'".[6]
Redemption (2008-present)
Huey's second album, Redemption, will be released on September 14, 2010 after many delays.[7] The first official single from the album was "Smile & Wave", which features Dorrough, which was released on June 15, 2010.[8]
