Japan–Korea Treaty of 1882

The Japan-Korea Treaty of 1882 is widely known as the Treaty of Jemulpo or Treaty of Chemulpo. The diplomatic agreement was negotiated between Japan and Korea following the Imo Incident on July 23, 1882.
Article V of the treaty permitted the Japanese to protect the Japanese legationa and the Japanese community in Korea.[1]
In 1884, the Japanese forgave the ¥400,000 indemnity which had been mandated by the treaty.[2]
