The Irish News is the only "quality" newspaper published in Northern Ireland.

Its competitors are the unionist tabloid the [[(Belfast) News Letter and the Belfast Telegraph. Though the Belfast Telegraph is broadsheet in format, it is tabloid in content.

It is broadly Irish Nationalist and Social Democratic in outlook.
