Southwest Guilford High School
Southwest Guilford High School is a secondary school in High Point, North Carolina, United States, established in 1979. It serves grades nine through twelve, with approximately 1400 students enrolled.
Current Principal is George "Alan" Parker.
The school was recently renovated and expanded to add more class rooms and develop an arts program. Southwest is known for its strong academics.
- Currently the school is undergoing another expansion to keep up with growth. More classrooms and a new gymnasium will be completed by 2012.**
Athletics
The Southwest Guilford Athletic program is led by athletic director Brindon Christman. The SW teams are known as the "Cowboys and Cowgirls." The school colors are kelly green, black and white. However when the school was first started the colors were brown, kelly green, and white.
Southwest Guilford has rivalries with nearby High Point Andrews and High Point Central, as well as Glenn high School in near-by Kernersville.
Southwest has claimed state championships in nine different sports. The two latest are Volleyball in 2006 and Men's Indoor Track in 2009.
Southwest has enjoyed huge success as of late in Men's and Women's Tennis, Baseball, and Men's and Women's Soccer winning numerous conference championships. The Women's Basketball team won the Piedmont Triad 3-A Conference Championship in 2007-2008 under Head Coach Duane Willis. It was the schools first women's basketball conference championship in 11 years. The team was led by N.C East-West All-Star Tyisha Bridges (now at Norfolk State University) and Gladney Brown (now at Wingate University.) In 2008 Jessica Bryan took over the women's program with great success. In the 2009-2010 season Bryan lead the Cowgirls to a 20-6 final record winning the Piedmont Triad 4-A Conference Championship as well as the Conference Tournament Title. The team was lead by Cheyenne Parker,(High Point University Signee),Zena Lovette,Shannon Buchanan and Shanel Lawerence.
The Men's Indoor Track team Coached by Charlie Brown claimed the 1-A/2-A/3-A State Championship in 2009. Sprinter/Hurdler Cordell Livingston was named the meet's Most Outstanding Runner.
The football team has seen an uprising in recent years under former head coach Bryan Davis (2004-2008) and current coach, Coach Schwarzer (2008-current).
Notable outstanding athletes from SW are Olympic and professional soccer player Eddie Pope, MLS standout Clyde Simms (currently with the D.C. United), NFL Defensive Back Brian Williams (currently with the Atlanta Falcons) and NFL player Stefon Adams.
