Talk:Deep-cycle battery

Hey folks. Since this is an energy-page, how about we talk about environmental impacts of proper and improper use and disposal of these things? I came across this as I was reading up on Earthships, I may come back when I feel like learning about batteries, but if someone knows stuff ahead of me please contribute. Converting
Is is possible to convert a regular car battery to a deep-cycle battery (for price issues) ? - anon
- No. Different internal construction, thicker plates. --Wtshymanski (talk) 18:32, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
Depth of discharge
I would like to know more about the level of discharge - i.e. discharged to 30%, 50%, 100% of its capacity ? What is a common/normal ? To what voltage does it drop, in comparison with a normal battery?
- the answer is always "It depends". Depth of discharge depends on the application. The terminal voltage of a lead-acid battery is not strongly correlated to its state of charge, so it's usual to measure the electrolyte specific gravity to accurately assess the state of charge. --Wtshymanski (talk) 18:32, 20 March 2010 (UTC)
Can a deep cycle and a car battery be used at the same time to extend run time?
Can they be connected in parallel for different applications or do they need to be isolated?
