WES Commuter Rail
Washington County Commuter Rail is a proposed 14.7 mile commuter rail line in suburban Portland, OR along the Highway 217 corridor. The trains will operate only during weekday rush hour in peak direction on existing freight rail tracks operated by the Portland & Western Railroad. After years of delays due to struggles over funding, the line is scheduled to open in 2008 with stations at Wilsonville, Tualatin, Tigard Transit Center, Washington Square and Beaverton Transit Center (where the commuter rail line will connect with the existing Metropolitan Area Express (Portland, OR) light rail system). Construction will begin in 2006.
Equipment
The rail line will use a combination of powered and unpowered Colorado Railcar DMU cars.
Future Extensions
An extension of the line further south to Salem, OR has been proposed.
